Looks like i will be having a c section due to family history of heart problems, im happy with that as i think its the safest option.

I know you can have skin to skin when the baby is born but how long do you need to lie flat for? I just keep thinking i will want to sit up and hold my baby?

Hope its not a silly question!

hi its not a silly question . i was sitting up when i got out of recovery i mean they had the bed propped up ,i had my c/s at 8:25pm and i was up walking abt at 6am . :flower:

I wasn't allowed to sit right up for 12 hours because my blood pressure kept dropping too low every time they did. I was raised slightly once I got out of theatre but not sitting right up. My baby slept on my chest until I wanted to go to sleep at night and I breastfed her the minute we were out of theatre :) xx

My CS was just like a vaginal delivery as far as holding the baby was concerned... I was even breastfeeding an hour after he was born... In fact, he wasn't even brought the little plastic bassinet until it was time to go to sleep in the evening, he was just in my lap the whole time.

I sat up in recovery and nursed my son. So I imagine as long as there are not complications they will let you sit up as soon as possible.

Standing and walking is a different story though.

I sat up immediately had skin to skin once I was stitched up. Walking around within 4 hours

well my girl was sent to the special care baby unit as she was early so I did not get initial skin to skin with her however after the two hour post natal recovery in the C-section ward, I was wheeled into spend the night with her on my tummy. It was fantastic, the midwives brought in everything I needed and since I was unable to change her or pick her up my husband did but having her lie on my belly was bliss

I was sitting up the same day (had the section at 4.06am) and had skin to skin propped up with pillows for a couple of hours after she was born and was then up and about the next day.

I honestly cant remember, i was so exhausted i cant remember getting form theatre to the recovery room and then the ward:S but what i can remember is being in the recovery room sitting up breastfeeding my baby so from what i know you can sit up literally straight away, just make sure you have pillows propped up x

I had c section at 5.36am and as soon as they finished stitching me up I was given my baby and breastfed straight away. I was up for a shower around 6pm that day although it was very very uncomfortable.

i had my c section in the afternoon and was up walking that night. i was also propped up so i could hold my son, i found that holding him against my belly was a bit tender.
