:hi: ladies!!! long time no talk!! :winkwink:

so i am going back to work and have been taking Alexander to the dayhome lady to get him prepared for when I do go back on the 19th.

I was talking to her about how much i seem to waste formula when he is growth spurting because I make a huge bottle one time and he eats all of it and then the next time he is starving i assume he needs the same amount and he only eats 2 oz of it....she proceeded to say that i could leave it out for four hours and if he got hungry again I could just use it.............I have only ever used it after an hour, if it goes over an hour then I throw it out.....

any ideas??

well i was like u i didnt give zane a bottle that was over an hour old but now i leave his bottle around 3 hours may be as he likes to munch. but the other night he was drivin me insane and i gave him the closest bottle to me which was 6 hours old! but he was fine with it.

or u can always make him smaller bottles n if he needs more make an extra oz after?

they are just so sticky on the packaging that is scares me, but what is the worst that could happen? thanks! :hugs:

Depends how fresh it is, if youve made the whole days bottles in one go then id say no more than an hour once out and warmed up, but if you making bottles up as you go along then perhaps 2 hours tops

I think once they get a bit older it's less than an issue if you put the cap back on and put it back into the fridge.. for Elyse I use a bottle for an hour unless I put it back into the fridge, then I use it for 2.

something about bacteria that forms when as soon as they suck on the nipple......

good idea about just putting it back in the fridge.

I am sure Alexander deals with more bacteria from a dog lick than his own bottle

I would never give a baby a bottle that's 4hrs old...that's crazy (unless refridgerated). Here it stays good for 1hr, but if it's even close to an hour out I toss it. It spoils just like anything else, bacteria can grow in it. The age of the baby doesn't matter, if it's bad it's bad. I would go by what your formula says, if it says 1hr out then I wouldn't ever go over it..and if that's what it says you might want to let her know so she doesn't give it to him that old either

I throw away whatevers left as soon as Ben has finished a feed. If he wants more in half hour or so, i make a fresh bottle. That's just me though - super cautious with formula.

Four hours is a bit of a stretch, but I've stretched it out to about two at times, the stuff is so damn expensive! I haven't had any problems.

I chuck after an hour and I make mine up fresh.

No more than an hour for me. I would much rather waste a bit of formula than risk giving Lucy a tummy ache. If I had a glass of milk and left it out for 4 hours theres no way id touch it so certainly wouldnt risk it with my little person

I've done 2 hours but no more x

i discard unused formula after an hour, i too have always be super cautious with it x

I make up bottles with the powder one at a time and don't leave it more than 2 hours maximum. x

i make them up as and when and i give her what she wants and if she leaves the rest i chuck it, shes only on two bottles a day though

x
