I know this is a bit like asking how long does it take for a baby to learn to walk but I just want to get a vague idea.

What I want to know is how long does it take for LO to self feed properly without help And eat more of the food than they throw away/spit out. I want to hear about BLW and TW.

I just have no idea how long it is supposed to take. I know my LO is only a few days passed 6 months, I'm not expecting it already LOL

We BLW. He's always fed himself although we do give him preloaded spoons of things like yogurt. He started eating more at around 8 months and except when he's teething he eats a fair bit of what I put in front of him.

I think most babies learn to use cutlery around the age of 18 months. We are in the process of introducing a fork to LO but he doesn't get it yet and he also can't scoop with a spoon yet.

I'd say he started eating more around 9ish months but even now at 14 months he still BFs A LOT and I'd say he's no where close to weaning fully.

But it def depends on the baby, someone who FF may end FF at 1 year and the baby would be on full meals + snacks whereas we've gone reallllllllly slow as I want to BF to at least 2 years and he's always liked milk better than solids.

My lo is tw and he is almost 6 months he took to it so well. He throws up milk as soon as he drinks it so i decided to wean him. My hv said do one meal a day for 5 days then introduce a second meal for 5 days then a 3rd meal for 5 days so all in all it took me 15 days to get him on 3 meals a day. He has a morning bottle and breakfast then sometimes a little snack like a yoghurt (but not always ) then lunch then bottle then dinner then bottle for bed time. I think my other lo pretty much did the same as far as i can remember x

We did BLW with both of my girls.

I'd say they were eating decent amounts pretty early on, especially my youngest who can really pack it away. Right from the first day they both ate food but I'd say maybe around 8 months was when they started eating a proper meal rather than just trying things. But it really depends how much food you give them on the plate and whether they really like it!

Neither of mine have been particularly messy - both have liked to have a good squidge of the food but they aren't really food throwers. It's very rare that either of them spits anything out because they have always fed themselves. The only reason mine have tended to spit things is when they've stuffed too much food in their mouths... and that's happened maybe 10 times between them (they're 3.5 years and 18 months old now).

We didn't introduce foods slowly so they were both having all normal meals with us from the day they started on solids. Both liked to try using cutlery from the start but I'd say at around a year old was when forks started becoming useful; before that they mostly just used spoons to dip into yoghurt, porridge etc.

I'd expect most of a baby's calories to come from milk until around a year old, then a gradual transition to food being the main source. I would expect all children to have some part of their diet as milk until at least 2 years old, but how much of that is milk would depend on the child. My 18 month old eats as much as her older sister but she also has three good milk feeds a day, on average, sometimes snacking more on milk too.

Officially they are weaned when they are no longer having formula or BM as a main source of nutrition but how they take to it you cant predict. My LO took to it like a duck to water but others it can take months
