Sam's not quite 7 months yet but when I spoke to the HV a few weeks ago she said we should be aiming to reduce his feeds to 2 a day between now and when he's a year old.

He's still having 5 feeds a day at the moment, as well as 3 meals a day - is that too much? He does have juice or water with his meals but doesn't drink very much of it. Just wondering how many milk feeds a day other babies are having at his age or what I should be aiming for in the next few weeks - or do I still just feed him when he wants it and he'll start wanting less as he eats more? x

I'm not much help as Colton still eats every 3 hours when he is awake (So, about 6 bottles). However, I normally limit his food meals to half the jar (he's on stage 2 now, they are for 6mo+ HERE) since they are 4oz jars.. thats 2oz per feed, three times a day.
However, I've been wondering the same about the bottles, because he seems to have more bottles than other babies his age!
Today, I've started letting him eat what he wants during his feed, and both breakfast and lunch he had about 3/4 the jar, but thats only because he had the other 1/4 yesterday (part was breakfast, part was a fruit that OH thought was a dessert last night!! :dohh:)
So, I'm thinking he might start eating less as he eats more, especially if I dont limit the amount of food he gets. Of course, I wont let him eat excessive amounts.. LOL. After the jars done thats it. (Except for dinner, when he gets a few small bites of a dessert)

Sorry, thats probably not much help. I'm interested in what others have to say, as I've been wondering the same thing.

I don't know why health care professionals just have to put their two cents in about every aspect of a human child's life- regardless of the science behind it...

If your son wants to feed 5x a day who cares? He needs hydration too! I wonder if said HV would like to only drink her fluids 2x a day and eat her dinner then too...

:dohh:

Caitlyn is alwayssssssssss on my boob! All I have to say to HVs is (childish moment coming, be warned) WHATEVER. She will eat what the hell she likes when she likes. She's a baby. They can't eat more than they need!

Thanks everyone. I think we'll stick with things as they are at the moment and see how he gets on when he starts eating more like you MarchBaby...

My HV is actually pretty good compared to some I've read about on here! I think she was just saying that he can get all he needs nutritionally in 2 feeds by the time he's a year old. Was just wondering what other people's kids are doing as I worry that I'm feeding him more than he actually wants fed because I'm worried about him not having enough :laugh2: He seems quite happy on 5 a day at the moment though :D x

Erica's milk feeds haven't seemed to decrease that much since eating solids. She eats one meal a day most days, and some days 2 when she seems hungrier.

Well Kaya still feeds roughly 6 times during the night and 6-7 times during the day, but she's not on solids for meals etc. She's 10 months
