How many feeds for 8 month old? Please help :(

I forgot to mention about his dry diapers though!

Oh I had no idea that babies hanging upside down could be a sign of something, do you know what is could be a sigh of? I have just always put in down to Sophia being a wriggler as she is otherwise healthy and happy. I hope it's nothing more anyway.

About Sophia's feeding, well like you I had been advised to offer lots, however I find that Sophia doesn't feed unless she's asking for it! So I kind of wait until early signs and then offer. She is still distracted immensely but when I just offered say 2 hourly, she would have none of it! Over the last week OH has been at home a lot and I have needed to go out a few times without LO which I haven't done often. I have left expressed milk with OH but often she actually doesn't need a feed at all when I'm gone as I pretty much time it carefully. However as soon as I get home all she wants is boob and she feeds so well then! This is even after I have only gone out for an hour and I would not have normally being feeding her if I'd been there at that time. Obviously it's not possible to go out frequently to get LO feeding more but it's food for thought!

There was a time a couple of months ago when Sophia's nappies became less wet and eventually they were dry when, like you are, I was really worried. At that point I attempted a dream feed if sorts, as she would wake up, but be drowsy so took a good feed, since then she hasn't had any dry nappies but has not needed any more late night feeds either. So might be worth doing that if you're not already while the weather is hot?

Thanks. Yes I dream feed him before I go to bed. He has one of his best feeds then. Maybe I should go out, I never leave him. My husband is home today and I need to go shopping, maybe I should do it alone...

Declan is very active as well and I thought it was normal for this age but I was told he is a lot more active than most babies his age. The craniosacral therapy might help with that as well. I don't remember what exactly she said, something about they need or want the feel of the blood rushing to the head and that could be a sign of something else. She didn't give me a name. But this LC I saw before and she noticed Declan had high tone and CST helped with that, so she seems good at diagnosing things doctors would never pick up on.

Are you offering him lots of water in a sippy during the day?? I was surprised how much Maddie drank when we put one on the play mat. She fed 4/5 times a day at 8 months but also drank lots of water. I would second hiding milk in food - Maddie has 3-4oz in her porridge and I make mash potato with it to up the ozs.

xx

I haven't offered him water as we want him to get thirsty and drink BM. I have been offering him expressed BM in a sippy cup if he doesn't have a long nursing session.

Totally up to you and your judgement.

Personally I would say Maddie drinks the same amount of breast milk regardless of how much water she has had, but if we don't offer water she gets painfully constipated and that stops her feeding...

If you're worried about LO being dehydrated I would honestly start offering water. If they refuse it, no harm done and if they drink some, it won't be anywhere near enough to fill them up. xx

I will try to give him some today.

Gave him water but it didn't make a difference.

Today he hardly nursed. Wouldn't when he woke, before nap, or after morning nap so I pumped. He drank 6 oz of expressed milk in the afternoon and wouldn't even eat much before bed. I went in to do his usual dream feed and he heard my husband scrape his plate with his fork and woke right up and I couldn't get him to nurse anymore. I was wishing my husband would have came in and ate at a normal time or eat downstairs. I got mad at him, but really it wasn't his fault. I am just so upset I can't get him to nurse. Swaddling isn't helping at all anymore. I haves been giving him lots of food like I was told to so hopefully he will be thirsty and nurse more, but it isn't working. I could cry right now.

:hugs: i'm sorry Hun I don't know what to suggest other than this could be a nursing strike?

Hugs x wish I could offer some advise x

Thanks ladies. Charlie, I am assuming this is a nursing strike except it wasn't sudden. So I am doing all the research I can on them. How is your LO doing now?

He crawled for the first time today so I am wondering if this leap is causing the strike? I also took away his pacifier today. He is very dependant on it and I read a few times that can lead to a strike.

I did manage to get him to eat twice today! The first was before his second nap, he was very tired (I made sure to really tire him out before) and he nursed from the left side well, but not the right. Then we ate and went for a very long walk trying to distract him from wanting his soother. He screamed a very angry scream for the last kilometer of our walk as I knew he was getting tired and really wanted his soother. I didn't give in even when changing him was horrible because he was so cranky (usually if I give it to him he is happy) but then he nursed so well from both sides! I know it may not be the answer all the time but small steps.

Also, earlier today my right breast hurt and it felt like it was engorged (felt like this yesterday too but I just ignored it because I was so upset). So I pumped and it still felt like that. I assumed the pump just couldn't get the milk out as well as my son but when he ate later from that side it still felt the same but only part of the breast. So I pumped again, same thing. Now I am thinking I might have a plugged duct. So I am massaging it and going to go take a hot shower. I read it could be from him not eating as usual. Also my domperidone was upped so I am making more milk but baby isn't drinking it. If it's not one thing it is another.

Hi. I stumbled upon this thread and although I don't have any advice, I just wanted to send you big hugs :hugs: You're doing great and your LO is lucky to have a mommy who cares so much! Keep up the good work and he'll continue to be a happy healthy boy. Not all babies read the textbooks on what they're supposed to be doing :winkwink:

Thank you so much! Sometimes you just need to hear that.

He has been doing better, but still doesn't eat much. At least I can pump and feed him that way.
