I just posted my intro post in the "Introduce Yourself" section.

So we are starting IUI for the first time this cycle. I started Follistim injections on day 3 and today is day 6 of my cycle. I went in for my blood work and vaginal ultrasound, the nurse made a comment that I have LOTS of follicles (my right ovary had 20+ and the left had between 15 and 20). She said the goal was to get me pregnant, and not to get me on a local magazine cover and hinted that they may be changing my dosages. I wasn't sure if she was just trying to be funny or if that was an abnormally mutant large number of follicles. The fertility specialist reviewed it and I got a message from the nurse saying he's not too concerned and proceed as previously instructed.

So how many follicles did you have on/around day 6?

I had 60+ on both occasions. However, lots of follicles doesn't necessary equal lots of eggs. On attempt number 1, they got 3 eggs and on attempt number 2, they got 12.

Thanks! can you share with me where you are in the process now? I'm assuming from your profile pic that you've had success!

NM I just noticed the info below your name, sorry I'm new to these forums. I'm so happy to know of your success, did you do IUI before the IVF?

I've been through 6 medicated IUIs (all with Puregon) and on most of them I had 2 dominant follies although one was with 1 dominant follie and another was with 3 dominant follies. I think each time I had 2-4 non-dominant follies as well. But in Denmark they first scan you around CD9-10 to see when you can trigger, that is other than the cyst-check scan on CD2-3 before they give you the green light for that cycle.

Although not all follies contain eggs but it's impossible to see on those scans and would require them sucking the follies out and using a microscope to know for sure.

No, we went straight for IVF after 10 cycles of Clomid. In the UK, if your treatment is NHS funded, they tend to move straight to IVF as it has a higher success rate vs. IUI. Having said that, a friend of mine paid for IUI treatment in Denmark and got a BFP on her first attempt.

Happy to answer any other questions :)

Dear kat, thank you for sharing. I'm going for my cd 8 blood work and ultrasound tomorrow so I'll update on my iui journey thread. Have you had success on iui ?

Thank you, and I'm assuming your first ivf was a success !

Unfortunately not :( Went through 6 IUIs with Puregon but nada each time (not even a CP to show for it). Although to be honest I semi- gave up after #4 failed so had a sneaking suspicion we'd need IVF. I think one of my IUIs was a bit doomed since I'd already Oed by the time I came in to get DH's sperm injected.

So I'm starting the long protocol IVF this month (which includes taking the nasal spray for downregulation). Got AF yesterday so calling the hospital today to schedule my CD19-20 scan and getting my downregulation meds at that meeting. Here's hoping it's work 1st time:winkwink:

I hope you're much luckier than me with your IUI :dust: My best advice is to remain relatively positive but not counting on it if you get me. I went in so sure we'd end up with a BFP in the end but nope. Also my nurses told me most first get their BFP around IUI #2-4 so don't be too upset if it doesn't work the first time. But here's hoping it does :)

I did have success after my first IVF attempt although that sadly ended in a missed miscarriage. I fell pregnant again after my second attempt and now have a 12 week old son.
