I just wondered how many actually follow what it says on the tin of adding the powder to boiling water and then cooling and how many add to cool boiled water or other things like that?? How important is it to add to boiling water - is it a maajor no no to not do that sometimes - like say the odd time when u r out and about or the odd night feed??

Also - how many of you use the ready to use cartons for out and about and is it just the same or is taste - texture different?? Are you meant to then heat this up or can you give it as it is at room temp??

Thanks in advance!!

xx

i use ready made all the time - it is slightly different to powder, but my older 2 used to take both all the time

when i made up formula i did all the bottles, cooled them down and stored them in the fridge, it was ok when my older 2 were babies to do it that way

Ditto here as above.
The cartons can be fed at room temp, it just depends what your baby prefers.

i make my bottles for the day and stick in the fridge, i did it this way 5 yrs ago and it was fine to. and also the ready made can be given at room temp, very handy for out and about!

So you boil water put needed amount of boiling water into bottle - add powder and then place in fridge - then heat when required??

Also - ive heard the the ready made stuff is a bit thicker - and at mo my LO is on the first size teat (Dr browns bottles) so would i need to use the next size up for the ready made?? She's only tiny and sometimes chokes on the first size so not sure how she would take it???

I did to start and found it so so o inconvenient - a screaming baby does not wait for 30 minutes while the kettle cools down!! I then started keeping a flask of boiling water and making the bottles up with that. Then for the last few weeks Ive made up 6 bottles at
the start of the day and put them in the fridge and heat when needed. Not recommended any more but it didn't harm me when I was a baby!!!

wait to cool to room temp before putting in the fridge,

i make up with boiling water, and then cool it in a jug of cold water, if the water is too cold i find it tends to go lumpy and not mix proper, if its middle of the night or were out i use ready made carton! :) x

I make 3 bottles at time recommended way cool them down quick and keep in the fridge and heat up as needed. If we are out and about I use the ready made stuff. I think that you cannot actually use boiling water (scalding) just boiled water that has been cooled down for half an hour.

I boil water and leave to go cold, then put in Formula when he needs, he's happy with it cold, got in such a mess with it being to hot, or LO having a meltdown meantime its easier this way!

I sterelise my bottles twice a day. While they are sterelising i boil the kettle, then when thay are done i put boiling water in the bottles, wait for them to cool and then put in fridge. Whe LO is hungry i get one out and heat just the water in the bottle warmer then when its body temp i add formula and shake. This was how i was told to do it when i had my son but now its not reccomended but it never hurt him xx

yep thats exactly how i do it except i leave the water to cool slightly as i cant shake them if they are too hot hehe , i just heat the bottle as required in a jug/bowl full of hot water when harrison is hungry.

Usually i make them up as required, using boiling water then cool it under the cold tap. If i'm going out, i'll make a feed up to take with me.

Bella will not drink cold milk if it's been made with powder formula, but she will if it's carton. If i'm home & using up a carton that i bought when out, i'll warm it in warm water.

The carton stuff i think tastes nicer.

I think im going to defo try the cartons for out and about - that would be a life saver! Would i need to use the next size up teat (currently on first size that comes with bottle) ive heard people say the ready made stuff is thicker??

We make up 6 bottles (24hours worth) exactly as per the packet instructions at 19:00, then put them in the fridge until each is needed, then heat :-)

I make mine up for the next 24 hours...I fill up most of the way with cold boiled water which we store in a jug and then top up with boiling water so it is the perfect temperature and quicker to make!

i make mine up for the day.

boil the kettle, leave 20 mins.
make up bottles.
quick cool in ice cold water.
pop in fridge.

when i need a bottle, warm it up in the bottle warmer.

if i'm out and its longer than a hour that hes going to feed i use a carton, other wise i take a bottle out the fridge with me

xx

i have never had to use a different teat size hun x

Hey, I use powder during the day (made one at a time as it says on the tin) and a carton at night and when out and about and have never had to use different teat sizes so I wouldn't worry about that.
I make them up one at a time now as my son is still little but I will make them up in advance when he's older - by that age they're sticking their hands god knows where and eating dirt so seems silly to worry too much about a theoretical amount of bacteria in stored milk!

the cartons are to be used at room temperature, i.e. you don't need to heat them, you just open and serve.

We started off adding it to boiling water, but now add the formula to boiled water cooled, simply because we are so tired and Chloe can fuss so much while she's waiting for it to cool. We tend to fill up a thermos flask of boiling water before going to bed, and use it during the night for the feeds. BUT you can make up the bottles with boiling water and store them in the fridge for up to 24 hours if you prefer.

I personally think that you should keep things as clean as possible for your baby, but I know of women who did nothing more than fairy liquid their bottles (never used sterilising fluid) and their babies are doing fine, so I think a little non-sterile things are good for the baby. My opinion obviously.
