Any ideas? My lo is close to 14lbs now and can drink 6 and a half oz no problem. i was wondering if i should give him a little more, especially at night, is this ok or too much?? xx

WOW!! 6 oz? How often does he eat? My LO is 15 lbs, and eats 4 oz about every 3 hours. Anything more than that, the doctor said he's getting a little too many calories.

I wouldn't really go by his age, but maybe his weight instead. I was always scared of feeding my baby too much, but it was because I was comparing him to other babies his age, but they were all younger. :)

Im a little scared of feeding him too much, but he's hungry all the time! on average probably 5 ozs every 3 hours. xx

When i had my daughter i was told to triple the weight of the baby and devide it by how many feeds the baby has in 24 hours to an average of what a baby will need... she did say every baby is different but it was very acurate for my little one. So 14lb baby is 42oz of milk in 24 hours. If your little one has 6 feeds a day thats 7oz a feed. If they have 7 feeds thats 6oz a feed. Hope that helps. x

government guidlines say in 24 hours a baby should have 2 and a half oz per lb of weight. so Kian being 12lb has 30oz in 24 split across 5 bottles which is 6oz per bottle. ur LO being 14lb should have 7oz bottles 5 times a day.

I wouldn't worry abt over feeding... babies r born with a natural ability to regualte their cal intake (after all, BF babies can have as much as they want with no1 measuring or stopping them half way thro a feed). Withholding food from a baby can cause weight problems later in life because the will lose that ability. its really wrong of a MW or doc to tell u not to feed more than a certain amount if ur LO wants to eat more. it could just b a growth spurt and it'll even out later. Don't listen to advice abt 'over feeding'. as long as ur not forcing a baby to take more of his bottle than he wants or putting anything in his bottle thats not regular formula 4 babies then u wont b over feeding him.

Kian usually has some bottles where he drinks the full 6oz and some where he only has 4oz but then recently he went 4 abt a week where he was finishing 6oz bottles each feed and crying 4 more. same as when he was on 4 oz bottles he had a week where he started finishing them all so i offered more and he's have 5oz then after a while he went back to only drinking 4oz (guess it was a growth spurt).
Trust what ur baby is telling u abt how much they wanna eat x

14lbs = 35oz in 24 hours. 5 x 7oz -- but yours might want a bit less or a bit more, as long as its around that mark I would be happy.

A few weeks ago my daughter was having 6oz then 3 more oz's an hour later, so 9oz feeds basically and when I told the clinic I got told that was too much - but it's what she wmnated at the time and the next week she was back to 6 and 7oz bottles. They dictate what they need.

Thanks everyone, i was thinking this too, im sure baby will tell us when they are full, mw etc talk crap sometimes i think xx

well sometimes they dont even have kids so they just go by the book, and people are rarely ''by the book'' :hugs:

My little boy is 12 weeks old and weighs 14lb he has 6oz of milk every 4-5 hours sometimes he drinks it all in one go and sometimes he drinks 3oz and then has a break and then wants the rest i just listen to when he is ready for a bottle cos only babies know when they are hungry

my LO is 10 weeks and nearly 16lb. He has been BF so i dont know about other weights but we give him 7oz bottles! He gets 2 a day at the moment but i wondered when i manage to stop the BF altogether if he will still want 7oz of might go a bit less?

Jessica is 10 weeks and we give her 6 oz bottles every 3 hours...although she doesnt always take this amount, probably about 4 oz generally. She weighs 13lb.

Isla is 7 weeks old and nearly 10lbs...She has 6oz every 4hours, altough she does not finish the whole bottle all the time..She was taking 4oz but was never enough for her and always wanting more..HV recommended giving her 6 and it dosent really matter if she does not finish it just aslong as shes satisfied..and she seems to be :). each bottle varies what she takes usually between 4 and 6!..every baby is diffrent just do what u feel is best for LO.xx

My little man is 7 weeks and 10lb and is on 6oz every 4 hours!

Aliyah is 8 weeks old and takes 5oz every 3 hours x
