I had my first ultrasound when I was 3 months& today I just had my second and am about 4 n a half months.y doctor said he doesn't see a reason for me to come back so that'll probably be my last ultrasound. I see other people that have so many ultrasound pictures of their baby and out of 40 weeks I'm only getting 2 ultrasounds? I plan on going to get a private scan later on but I don't see why I wouldn't have another scan at my hospital when I'm not even considered halfway done yet. :/ I guess I'm just really bothered by it.

Most of my friends back home in the US only get 2, max 3 scans their whole pregnancy. Depends on the doctor, really. I have one friend that didn't get a SINGLE ultrasound besides an elective 4D ultrasound at 20 weeks because the doctor wanted to charge her like 200$ for every single ultrasound - on TOP of the couple 100 $'s she had to pay for each visit.

I guess it depends on your insurance. *shrug*

Where I live we get them every time we go to the doctor. I'm nearly 18 weeks and I've had 10 ultrasounds already. But even with so many, I still worry all the time. I actually feel like having so many makes the time go by even slower. :(

Last pregancy I got 2. My 16 week spina bifida one and my routine 20 week.

This time I have had
8 weeks - dating scan
12 weeks - NT scan
16 weeks - spina bifida scan
And on Tuesday I will have my
21- week morfology scan. Which will hopefully be my last one. As much as I live seeing my baby I can't afford to keep paying for all these scans. After all I will get to see baby for the rest of my life in 20 weeks time. Lol

I should only be getting one. My insurance only pays for my 20 week scan. I did a private scan at 16 weeks so I could see my baby. I hated that I was 4 months and had not seen my baby yet! I am also doing a 3D/4D scan in a few weeks-private pay. I agree with you, it is unnerving to go so long without seeing baby. It was especially hard in my first tri because I didn't feel him of course. My dr says the 20 week scan is really the only one needed unless there are complications.

If I had an uncomplicated pregnancy, I would get 1, unless I opted for the NT screening, in which case I would get 2. Since I'm in the high-risk category now, I'll be getting quite a few more to make sure everything is ok.

I paid for one at 9wks, then had my 12wk, 20wk and an internal at 21wks because the doc wanted to check my cervical length. I will have another at 34wks to check my placenta has moved up

We only get 2 here. 12 and 20wk. If you want more you have to go private. I had the 2 I'm entitled to and 2 private : one at 6wks to confirm pregnancy and at 17wks to find out gender

Wow I didn't know lots of other women didn't have very many either. A couple of my friends get one at every one of their appointments and it just didn't seem fair that I was only getting two :/ I guess it might be normal to not have very many then. How do they measure the babys growth further along if they don't do anymore ultrasounds?

I think in the UK you usually just get the 12wk and the 20wk. If all is well with both that's all they do.

Your midwife should be able to measure baby via your fundal height.

I only had 2 with DS and I've had 2 so far this time because of spotting.
Ill be having or have had;
8 week scan due to spotting and precious mcs
12 week dating scan
20 week anomaly scan
Paying for a 4d scan at 25 weeks
:)

I only get one at 18-20 weeks because I'm not high risk - nor am I over 35 to qualify for the 12 week NT scan.
I paid for a private one at 12 weeks tho because I wasn't waiting till 5 months!

Typically here not everyone has insurance... I mean a lot of people do but not most. And maternal insurance always takes a loooot of approvals so by the time you get the approval you've probably paid for half of everything yourself.

Instead of insurance we do have public hospitals and clinics that if they cost anything it would really be peanuts. My mom and MIL have always attended these hospitals/clinics for their pregnancies. They typically only got U/S maybe two or three times total. I opted not to go to these hospitals/clinics because getting an appointment takes forever... I'd planned to but I don't see the point of waiting 2 months for my first appointment. They are SO crowded.

So I've always gone private so far. And I've had so many u/s almost at every appointment.
5+2: severe cramping
6: ER, bleeding
6+2: clinic, follow up on bleeding
7+2: follow up on bleeding
9+something: bleeding
10+4: follow up on bleeding
12+something: follow up on bleeding
13+2: bleeding
13+6: started seeing a new doctor and she also did an initial scan to check on everything

It's not typical and it's cost me a lot so far... and then I hear of people saying how dangerous it is to have so many... but then I just dunno what I'm supposed to do when I've had a lot of bleeds and now another one :dohh:

The new doctor saw no sign of the old SCHs and scheduled me again at 18wks and I was so glad that I'm gonna go a month without u/s but I guess that's not going to happen... lol :dohh:

I had one at 7 weeks, then my anatomy scan at 18 weeks and I have one on Thursday because I'm measuring big. I went to the community college and had one done at 14 weeks as well. I was only supposed to get 2 I think but since I'm measuring 5 weeks ahead, they have to make sure all is well.

I had 3 last time.
The 12 week, 20 week and one at 36 weeks because they thought she was measuring a bit small and thought she was breech. I would have only had two if they didn't think that, they were completely wrong anyway :L

Will only be 2 this time as well unless there's a problem.

I've had 6 so far but only as I had early scans due to two previous losses so I had scans at 7, 8 and 9 weeks, then a 12 week scan then 20 weeks but baby was in the wrong position for heart measurements so I went back at 22 weeks yest and 4 times she tried but he was in the wrong position on his belly spine up, so we have to go back in another two weeks, I actually worry about too many scans and was really hoping he was in the right position yesterday but nope. Of course they need their measurements but I'd rather not have anymore yet til 32 weeks if I had a choice! Xxxx

I had ..
6 week- ivf clinic to check embryo in correct place
9 week- mid wife booked me in to early
12 week - dating scan
17 week (private bonding scan)
20 week- anatomy scan
26 week ( 3d scan )
30 week - growth scan ... And not sure if I'll have any more after that

I'm in the Uk and i've had 7 scans due to alot of bleeding. I have my sexing scan in a week and then i have my 20 week scan and then a scan day after 20 week due to being high risk of a down syndrome baby. Because i'm type 2 diabetic, i have 2 or 3 growth scans in 3rd trimester aswel x

I've had:
8 week scan to rule out ectopic (one blocked tube)
9 week scan to rule out twins (hcg levels went up the roof)
12 week scan NT (not high risk and I was 33 at the time but my gyn was a fertility doctor and it was routine for her)
17+5 scan for "gender" (they actually looked at the baby's development and organs)

I went to my ob yesterday and he said to see him in a month and then he'll ask for another scan in I don't know how many weeks

For me because of my history and being high risk, I have had a lot of scans. I have had scans at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks, 14 weeks, 16 weeks, 20 weeks and then I have another one at 23 weeks, 24 weeks, 26 weeks, 34 weeks and weekly scans to follow if I make it past then. My scans are to check cervix length, placenta blood flow, fluid levels and then normal dating scan and two anomaly scans because baby didn't play ball yesterday xx

Everyone is different through xx
