There are so many different prenatal vitamins out there and I just noticed the brand I've been taking has 1000 mcg folic acid. Is that too much?

Mine has 400mcg I thought the recommended amount was 400-800 if you're unsure just give your midwife/ doctor a ring

I take 5mg which is a prescribed amount due to me having spina biffida oculta

Mine has 800. I don't think you can overdose on folic acid, though, as it's water soluble and you'll simply pee out any excess. :)

Thanks ladies! I just called my doctor's office and they're sending a prescription for it today :) That should take the guess work out!

I take 800mcg via folic acid tablets, and about another 300-400 from food sources (eggs, marmite, spinach, avocado, broccoli etc).

I did read somewhere yesterday that women with higher BMI's need to take more folate, I forgot where I read it, perhaps it's something to do with having a lot of maternal tissues? So I'm going to be also taking an extra 800mcg in the evenings just in case.
