My LO is having anything from 4-7oz at a time and is still on every 3 hours. he sometimes can go for maybe 1 or 2 times a day with a 4 hour gap but not every day. he is now on hungry baby food and this is not really making much diffrence with the times. we did hope he would eat less and not too close a time.

he is not fat but is big as he now weighs 13lbs 5oz on wednesday afternoon. he was 9 lbs when born and he is very tall. he is in size 3-6 month clothes and is only 8 weeks old. he is very happy but I am just worried that he is eating too much.

only 8 more weeks and i can start to give him baby rice and maybe this will help with the every 3 hour thing.

Hi. In my opinion, 8 week olds SHOULD be offered a feed every 3 hours. I did with my LO until she was nearly 4 months, now she feeds every 4 hours.

I don't think your LO needs to be on hungry baby milk.

Lots of babies this age are still feeding every 2 hours, so you're doing fine.

Also, 17 weeks is the very earliest you should consider baby rice or any solids, most babies don't need them til about 6 months, and your baby's feeding sounds completely textbook to me!

I have been talking to HV and they say that hungry baby food is best for him as he was eating almost 2 hourly when I went on it. I think he might be getting a bit better as ther past few days he is calming down and eating 3 and half and sometime longer between feeds. all depends on how long he is up for and how active he is, the more he is moving the more he wants.

My first HV told me that he sould be eating 4 hourly and only what the tin says is the recomended amount. and that was at 3 weeks old. poor little fella he would be screaming for most of the day if i listened to her.

I will not worry so much now thanks for the reply nice to know that i am not the only one who is feeding 3 hourly.

I do not mind doing the feeds as long as my LO is happy and healthy thats all that matters.

Archie was a big baby at birth- 10lb7oz! and I have constantly worried that I am feeding him too much. He's on 7oz bottles now - about 5 in 24hours. Before he was sleeping through he was drinking 7 bottles ish in 24 hours. He has never gone 4 hours between feeds during the day despite HV and MW's telling me he should, he's a big baby and hungry. As long as your LO is happy i wouldn't worry too much about the space between feeds, if he's hungry he's hungry, he wouldn't feed if he wasn't x

Hey my Ryan sounds very simliar.

he's also not fat but weighs alot because of his length.

he's now weaning and has 7oz of milk every 3 hours..in total he ends up with about 4/5 bottles a day as he squeezes his nightime one in before his bath!

personally i don't think your feeding him excessively i'd say this is normal for a long baby.

my Ryan was in 3-6 at about your LO's age and he's doing perfectly well and healthy and gaining weight normally as the health visitor has told me.

so i wouldn't worry :D
