I have no idea where we are at or where we should be !!! Sometimes he will go longer up to 4 maybe be even 5 occasionally but most of the time its bang on 3 hours (or less!)

Then a couple of days ago he didn't seem that interested in the 3 hour feeds so I went back to feeding on demand to see how often he wanted food off his own back, well yesterday was a bloody nightmare felt like we were back to the first week again. He slept ALL day (which meant he wouldn't actually go to sleep until 1am) Did go quite long between feeds then he had a feed around 6pm and didn't have another until 10.30 and that was only because we gave it to him, he wasn't actually asking for it ifykwim.

Then during the night constantly waking up, thrashing about and wanting the dummy (he hardly ever has the dummy through night only in day) I did two feeds about 2am, 5am and 8am.

Im starting to get really stressed about it now, I don't expect him to sleep through the night yet but I thought he might at least go down to just one feed !!

I am certain he is getting enough milk at each feed as he comes off on his own and either goes straight to sleep or is awake and doesn't show any indication of wanting more.

Were you feeding to a schedule before? TBH it doesnt generally work well with BFing as you have no idea how much they are getting. Throwing a dummy in can add to the problem as you might be missing his cues.

Feeding on demand is the best way really to ensure that he's full and that your body is getting the right cues. :)

I had been feeding every 3 hours unless she looked for it sooner when obviously I'd feed her earlier. Then I decided to do it on demand and see when she looked to be fed and it still seemed to be every 3 hours or so. At our ante natal class, we were told not to let baby sleep for longer than 4-5 hours during the day without offering a feed, otherwise they'll look for those feeds at night so that's the basis I've been working on. I know alot do just feed on a purely demand basis and it works really well. I guess every baby is different and it's a case of finding what works well for you guys :hugs:

alfie has always fed on demand he usually goes 1-2hrs from 8am when we get up until 1ish then have nothing until 4pm ish then goes 1-2hrs again until he goes to bed at 6;30pm and never wakes for a feed during the night.

around 10 weeks he would have around 9 feeds during the day and 2-3 naps he was sleeping around 16hrs in a 24 hr period.
hope this help :hugs:

Thanks,

I did kind of have a schedule but this was just following his lead.

So basically he would feed on demand every few hours give or take 10 mins so I just started feeding him bag on 3 hours.

To be honest im not sure whether im coming or going anymore !

So you think I should stick with feeding on demand ? The problem is ive also had to go back to work two mornings per week (self employed so not got much choice) so I kind of need to know roughly when he is having his feeds so I have time to express.

sounds like how were at at 9 weeks. We had probs with missing hunger cues because of the dummy so weve had to go back to square one with lots of feeds.

Are you still using the dummy ?

Yea were still using it. I make sure to see if hes hungry first and that hes properly filled up before using it, so its not really getting used much at all now except at night.

Jack feeds about every 2 hours during the day and goes 4-5 hours at night. On the hotter days recently it's been more like every hour and a half between about 1 and 5pm though. We've never used a dummy and certainly wouldn't use one during the day

why the  face?
nothing wrong with using a dummy if its used right, i jsut learnt the hard way why they dont reccomend using it befored 6 weeks.

Kaleb wont take his dummy if he is hungry!! defo lets me know when he doesnt want it lol xxx

Same here angel... the dummy won't do if my LO is hungry.
