How old will your LO be when you decide to go on holiday abroad?

I'll prob take my LO on its 1st foreign holiday when its 1 or 2 yrs old x

mummycat that sounds lush

just had to share my worst trip ever actually lol 4.5 hours to lanzarote, i had a kid behind me (aged about 3 - certainly old enough to know better) played with the window blind thing slamming it open and closed for an HOUR, then he sat and kicked my chair, i mean full on played a game of kicking my chair for the rest of the flight!!! I asked his mum to stop him kicking my chair (v politely) and she said, and i quote "no he's not hurting anyone).. then on the descent she refused to put him in his seat and caused a MASSIVE hassle - the steward said if we crash or bump there's a good chance you will kill your child if he's on your knee with your own weight and his size but they were yelling at the stewards!! In the end he went in his seat and screamed bloody murder - STUPID family!!!! :trouble:

I had a similar experience to that but it was the father who was acting like a **** head and used his kid to grab hold of my hair etc. the father was so much a bully (this was years ago when I went on holidays with friends) he had a big ego as well and I just ignored him - he thought he was gods gift etc. so I was sat in front of him and he made his son stand on the fathers knees to hold on to my head rest - which of course through no fault of the son grabbed my hair etc (the father was goading him into doing this). What i found really shocking (i didn't say boo to a goose by the way) was that everyone sitting around us kept on tutting and shaking their heads at the actions of this bully but no one had the balls to say anything. In the end I asked for the steward and mentioned it to her - she asked the bully to stop making his son do this - the bully said ok but as soon as her back was turned the bully let the son carry on - what the really bad thing was - was that his wife was sitting next to him the whole time .................. there are some real **** heads out there xxx

I go overseas every year(since me and my hubby are from there) to see family and friends and enjoy but now that baby is coming, don't know when we'll go.I personally don't feel like traveling with small baby more than 8 hours on the plane plus waiting time in between...but,I didn't go this yr and cannot wait to go.Especially now that we want to show our little one to our families and friends...So I don't think I'd go before baby is over a yr old or even close to 2.So we'll have to wait 2 yrs now or close to it to go home...

We took our daughter on a flight when she was 7 weeks old. All my family are in the UK and couldn't fly out here for the birth or after, so we flew to them. We didn't have any problems with altitude, and she slept the entire flight there and back (3hrs each way). I would do it again. Actually, we probably will with this baby, BUT I wouldn't take a young baby on a long haul flight, because I just don't think it's fair if you can avoid it. Obviously if you have family far away, then you will probably need to fly long haul, but we don't, so there's no need. We have agreed to stay in Europe for our holidays for the foreseeable future, just until the kids are old enough to handle long haul without getting fidgety :winkwink:

My aunt lives in Corfu (jammy sod) and with bubs due in January I think I will be going over in the September/October of that year, so about 9/10 months old. Its only a 3 hour flight if I remember right, and it won't be too hot and sticky for bubs (or me!)
Was meant to go over this October but I'll be a little bit too pregnant!!

This definitely applies to us! I'm American, my husband German, and we live in Germany. I would absolutely love to take the baby to the U.S. once a year but we've decided to wait until the baby's at least 2 and can somewhat understand what's going on. It breaks my heart somehow because I know I'll so badly want to visit my family but there's no way I want to put a baby through a 10hr. plane ride + airport time. I mean, it's stress enough to travel solo! I've taken plenty of international trips in my life and hearing babies scream like they're being tortured for hours is not what I'd like to put mine through. That's just my opinion on it though.. I mean, my family already asked if we'd come next year but I said unfortunately no way. Of course it hurts them too but in the end we, as parents, have to do what we believe is best for our child. We've also thought about taking a ship over but I don't even want to know how much that would cost. It's expensive enough to fly! :(

We have a wedding in Greece to go to when lo will be 5 months, so pretty early. It's one of my best friends so can't miss it x

I got married in cyprus last year and my sister had already booked to come when she found out she was pregnant again so ended up bringing an 18month old and a 4month old. The flight was fine the youngest slept most of it and the oldest was easily enertained, tho they did have a little trouble landing as I think it hurt their ears. The holiday was fine, we went in July so it was stupidly hot which spoiled it for them a little bit i think. Me and other half are going abroad next year in either sept or oct when baby will be around 9-10 months, we figured be a bit easier by then and by going later on temp wont be so hot x

we went on holiday with harrison when he was 4 months old, it was perfect flying coz i was breastfeeding he just suckled and slept during the flight, we took him florida 3 months ago and not one child or baby cried, was realy suprised and thats what i expected, will be going as soon as possible after this baby is born x

We live for our holidays too and didn't have one last year as DD was too young. DH wanted to go to Egypt, but I wasn't keen so we ended up booking for 6 of us to do to Florida. Not going til May 2012 now for one reason or another we had to postpone. But i'm so glad we did as DD will be that bit older.. She will be 25 months. Can't wait for her to meet Minnie Mouse and I'm booking breakfast in Hollywood Studios with Oso, Handy Manny and the cast of Little Einsteins! I can't wait!

I went on a trip last year when my LO was 11 months old. Our flight was delayed so we had to hang out on the airport for a while. That was not hard, mutch for litle one to see and explore. So when we finally got in the plain and had to sit there for so long because they had to change staff after we came in the plane and it was hot inside and so on and we were put in front where there was load of hussle and stuff he cried a litle bit and his nephew to (15 months) but after crying for a while he settled in and went to sleep. The rest of the trip was easy peasy. The trip back home was not bad either. There was one 3 year old with us to and he behaved well and didnt cry. So It was ok and I didnt get any ugly looks, and if I did I didnt notice :)
