Right.. so I've been thinking about this since the beginning of my pregnancy.. But after you have LO, assuming all goes well and there aren't any complications, how soon do they give LO to you for the first feed? Who all is generally in the room with you? I just picture them handing me my son and there are lots of people all standing around watching me to make sure he latches on properly, ect...I don't know :dohh: I know I probably will care less who all is watching and who sees my boob at the time because I'll be so caught up with my son, but I'm just wondering. How was it when you had your first latch on/feed with your LO?

Thanks ladies  sorry if this is a silly question :hugs:

I'm thinking if they are in the room when you give birth your not going to care about them seeing him nurse :) lol

With Landon he was born with his dad and mymom in the room. They cleaned him up and got me cleaned up and a friend came in to see him before he nursed. I guess it was a good 30min maybe an hour even before he nursed the first time. Casen was a csection so that was 3hrs. But with Hayden I had planned it a bit more, knew I wanted to nurse right away and I had a midwife who was very pro breastfeeding so it was everything was right that time. When he started to be delivered (only his dad and nurses were in the room) the midwifelet me grab him and deliver him myself, I put him to my chest they gave me a blanket to wipe him off, waited until the umbilical cord was ready to be cut (we waited for a bit before cutting) then they gave me a fresh blanket and I wrapped him up and nursed him right away, it was 10min max before he started nursing and he nursed for a full hour! It was great. I would really recommend nursing as soon as you can after birth, though it didn't really make a diff as far as feeding went with any of them it was an amazing feeling to deliver him and have him nursing right away and we just bonded instantly, it was great

about half an hour after Fred was born xxx

Almost immediately. As soon as she was weighed really and when we did skin to skin she was actually trying to latch on

It was about 10 mins i think and apart from my oh and the midwife i can't even remember if anyone else was in the room ! I was that out of it !!

Lucas latched on quite well (from what i can remember) mw helped me position him etc and away we went :)

I had a c section so about 1 - 2 hours after and he latched on fine x

I tried to BF within 5 min but he wouldn't latch on.He eventually fed 5 hours later. The first time I tried Dh my mum and midwives were there, the second time the midwife was there and helped me position him once he latched on she left. He then didn't latch on until the sunday (he was born on a friday) no matter who helped, when he did I was on my own, very calm and quiet

I fed her about 20 mins after she was born. The MWs were cleaning up in the bathroom (where I had given birth - through choice BTW!) and me and hubby were in the bedroom and I just got her latched on as soon as I could :D

i had to have emergency section but was having skin to skin as soon as i was put in recovery room and i wanted to feed straight away but as i was still drowsey midwife helped she just put sam near and he latched on perfectly then left us to it with just me hubby and sam i think it wud have been about half hour to an hour after birth. then managed a feed on my own about 2 hours later on the ward. first feed is such a wonderful bonding experience you forget anyone else is there anyway.

My experience is exceptional as my youngest went to scbu but for most women it is almost straight away. The mw's are usually cleaning up after your birth but you could really ask for advice the first time you do it hun. Apart from that, after they have seen your birth do you think you will feel shy about bfing? I think not lol xxx

I was naked when I gave birth as I basically stripped when I got to labour ward as I was soo hot!

After he came out and his cord cut we had skin to skin and there was a lovely care assistant when help him to try latch on. Unfortunately he wasnt up for it as he was busy trying to look about!

But she came back about 20 mins later and we tried again....but still nothing so we hand expressed and syringe fed him as it was important for him to have feed due to my gestational diabetes.

It was only after I was showered and we were back on a normal ward he latched on and I was alone but the midwife did offer help etc and check all was ok.

i went straight to theatre after having katie, so after i'd been stitched up they brought her to me and she latched on, there were 2 midwives and OH in the room. tbh after you've given birth you're really not arsed about who sees your boobies! i stripped off when i got in the pool so i didnt care!!

About 30 mins, MW said 'do u want to try and feed him?' so I put him there and the MW seemed to walk off - so i said' am i doing it right?' when she returned... she said 'yeah looks about right :) ' lol

we were 3 hours later because i had to go off and have stitches so only got 2 minutes with my baby before hand. I was in the ward by the time of first feed and there was only me and mw as it was the middle of the night.

You know you probably won't care who's in the room at the first feed you'll probably be too exhausted!

About an hour after Holly was born and i was all stitched up etc. Just me and OH were there but Midwife popped her head round the corner to check i was going ok.

About 4 hours for me as I lost a lot of blood after labour so they had to take her away from me while I recovered.
