How to be a GOOD bridesmaid

So my friend asked me this evening to be her bridesmaid. She has only asked her sister and I so far and is not planning on making any other decisions on who else for another few months.

So my question to all the bnb brides and brides to be is.............what do you expect out of your bridesmaid and what can I do to be a supportive bridesmaid?


I just bought 2 wedding planning books on amazon for her and I am planning on getting some folders to keep her notes and plans in. Also going to make a list of all the hotels within an hours drive with their numbers as a start off for her thoughts on where to go.

At the moment she has no idea where she wants to get married or what she wants so I am also going to print out pics of each hotel and their reception room to help her picture what she would like.

Also formulating plans for the hen party! hehe!

It sounds like you are going to be a great bridesmaid!

My two bms are very non-girly girls, but are slowly learning! My expectations of them are -

- to be suitably excited about all things wedding related (although permission to slap me if I get too annoying is granted)

- To feed me chocolate and cups of tea when it all gets too much (not huge amounts of chocolate because I have a dress to fit in to, but a little)

- To be able to be delegated too should I need someone to do a little errand for me

- Organise a fab hen party

- Help me oick my dream dress

- Generally just be their lovely, fantastic selves....I love them as they are and thats why I asked them to share in the most special day of my life

I just ordered 2 wedding planning books and "The Proposal" on dvd for her on amazon so they should arrive to her house Monday when she is off work. She only got engaged this week so I thought I would get her a nice romantic comedy to watch!

Well I am definitely excited! Cried twice this week because of it....when she told me that she was engaged and when she asked me to be bridesmaid!

Oooooh good thread!! I have been asked to be Maid of Honour for my best friends wedding next year and I really have no idea - I have never been a bridesmaid before and our wedding was tiny with nothing like that so I don't know what to expect of myself really! ha! x

You girls are going to make fab bridesmaids When I go on to the wedding forums, some of the bm stories are crazy....like the bm who will only wear leather-lined shoes, those who try and boss the bride about...you wonder how these people were ever friedns in the first place! x

I have two bridesmaids (well two and a flower girl) but one of them is the flower girls mum so it just goes down to the one to look after me lol. I expect her to help me when I ask her to, help me in my dress, keep me calm, help me go to the toilet (lol) and do things like make sure my hair and make up stay nice, organise the hen do and generally just be my right hand man (or woman!) x
