I'm only just over 5 weeks and the bloating is driving me crazy. Even sitting down is not comfortable. The problem is that I am already overweight and now with the bloat, my belly is enormous.
Has anyone got any helpful advice to reduce or at least minimise the excess bloating?

Thank you.

I'd appreciate any advice too.. As soon as I eat lunch I balloon a good few inches which stick around the rest of the day. I don't mind so much for comfort, but its just I'm not ready to tell people yet and I think I look enormous just round the middle like a baby bump! Having to pick clothes carefully now too.

I'm sorry... I have no advice about how to minimize bloat rally. The only thing I found that kept it even marginally under control was eating only very small meals every two hours or so, but the bloat would still find me.

What helped me tons was buying new pants a size bigger with more waist room. I had to get them between 5 and 6 weeks along and they made me feel so much more comfortable. Plus, people told me that because my new pants were big enough to flow smoothly over my bloat they couldn't tell that I looked bigger at all. I was told time and again that only I could really tell the difference, probably the same is true of you.

I'd also gained 3 or 4 pounds by week 6 BTW, and thought that was too much. But just had my 1st Dr. appt yesterday and was up to 6 or 7 pounds gain at 11 weeks and she said that was perfect and she wants me to have put on 20 pounds by week 20. That really helped me relax about the weight a bit.

Sorry for rambling... hope you can find a way to be comfy. If all else fails, I'm a big fan of rolling along with my pants unbuttoned and a long shirt. :)

Thanks, I'll try the smaller meals often suggestion. I have been wondering whether to get some clothes a size bigger and I think that you have convinced me that this is the way to go. :)
I did buy a couple of maternity items, but feel that perhaps it is too soon to be wearing them. Maybe I'll reconsider that.

It's never too soon to be comfortable! I keep telling myself that when I'm more comfortable my little one probably is too!

I couldnt get my jeans on today :dohh:

I was the same last pregnancy by 8 weeks i was in maternity ,

I never found a way to help with thwe bloat im afraid

I bought maternity pants at 5 weeks due to bloat, but I wasn't big enough in the morning to fill them out. By the end of the work day my pants wouldn't fit though! So I recommend buying a size up and waiting on the maternity. I also recommend wearing belly bands with pants unzipped (at lunch I would stop zipping my pants) and some people had luck with belt extender things. I tried wearing maternity pants too early and they didn't stay up very well. I had lost weight by the time I got to my 8 week appointment, so it wasn't weight gain, just BLOAT. Hope the bloat goes away soon for you!
