How to register pregnancy?

Hi ladies , maybe a silly question but how do I register my pregnancy to start receiving my antenatal care and book first midwife appointment? With my first I rang the doctors but they got a bit funny saying I should have rung a midwife but did pass my details on in the end. I'm in the UK and about 8 weeks. Thanks x

How odd, usually your GP will book you in for your first midwife appt :S xxx

As PP said, GP should be your first point of call and then they'll refer you! x

I phoned the docs and asked to make a booking in appoint with the midwife.x

I was told just to make an appointment with the midwife as doctors only refer you anyway so saves u time as well x

I phoned up gp surgery and asked to make appointment with midwife. No need to see the doc as all they'll do is refer you to midwife anyway so will save an appointment with doc that you dont really need x

My GP just ask you to fill in a form and fax it directly to midwife and then I got a letter with my booking appointment at 8 weeks. They said you don't see GPs anymore for pregnancy (unless there's a specific reason). Phone the reception at your GP surgery and ask?
