I use paint shop pro 8 , alot of ppl use Photoshop but when starting out its best to use paint shop pro because its way easier . There are free trials on the net you can get .

I use photoshop but as starryeye said is is complicated. You can get a free 30 day trial though if you want to play around with it, the elements version is a bit simpler.
