HSG questions

hi...had this done mon just gone & i really would like to re assure anyone that is going to have this procedure done soon...please do not worry!!! I think i was more worried about the results than the procedure itself..

-was told to take paracetamol or something half hr b4 which i did
-they ask you to strip ur bottom half off
-they get u to sit on the end of the bed & put ur legs in the stirrup things & lay bk
-she told me the worse bit was the cathether going in but to be honest couldnt feel it!
-she blew balloon up to hold the catheter in place....i could feel slight cramping but nothing bad
- the other lady put the ultrasound probe in too & which she was scanning the other lady injected the dye through the catheter...couldnt feel this happening!

it really isnt bad at all....the assistant gives you some tissues & a thin pad to placein your knickers. I didnt see any thing on there til later on that day ( had procedure done at 12pm & i must of leaked between 4.30pm-6.30pm) looked like old blood....( sorry if tmi!!!)

have heard that this procedure can help with conceiving as it 'flushes' the tubes...hoping this has happened for me!! have just ordered some softcups for this mth so gona try them out too!! xxx

I know Beauty how awful it is, totally understand. It gets me sooo down thinking about the fact we have been ttc for 13 months now & no BFP...we will tho soon im sure so dont worry :) our turn will come. Yes they told me there & then.....they went through exactly what they were doing & told me when the dye was going in & then said yes the dye is going through so all is fine. My husband was looking at screen & saw the dye going through altho i didnt...to be honest i think i had my eyes shut as was waiting 4 the pain to start...but it never did!!! just had a tiny bit of cramping like a period.

Hopefully after you have it done it will make u more fertile as they say it does!!! I know i shouldnt have but this morning i was looking on the mamas & papas website & found the pram i really would like!!! the Joolz one is lovely!....i txt my husband & said how much i liked it & he said we need to get preg 1st!! i know he is right but i can dream cant i he he....its reduced which makes me think it will probably be discountined by the time i fall preg :(

I had the test done last year and I took some pain relief before I went. It was unconfortable, but not painful as in such, kind of felt like period cramps. It isn't a pleasant proceedure, and I had to have two done one month apart from each other. I wore a pad for a couple of days and I just had spots of dye come out, it wasn't running out. Good luck I am sure it will go well.
Did you know that having this done can flush out your tubes and increase your chances of concieving, I know a few women who have concieved with in 3mths of having this test done. So fingers crossed.

It hurt like hell for me and I took tylenol and advil before. I came within a second of passing out it hurt so bad. Don't want to scare you but everyone told me it wasn't to bad just like a pap and so I wasn't prepared for the world of pain I had and was kind of pissed no one was straight with me. My gyne also used a clamp on my cervix so I bled for 2 days after so yes bring a pad you'll need it then maybe a panty liner for the day after. Good luck! I hope it isn't bad for you!

Really, it hurt that bad, wow. I am sorry to hear that. Mine really wasn't that bad, felt like period cramps but slightly more crampy.
Can I ask? did the dye spill out the other end of the tubes? Cause was thinking maybe the pain was bad because the dye wasn't passing through your tubes had a spasam.
The dye didn't run through either of mine on both HSG tests, but it ran through on my left when I had a laparoscopy.

No AF yet :(
And HSG in a week, great just my luck it be late so i prob cant even have it done :(

Hi, just wanted to update. I've now had the HSG and it was really not bad at all. I decided not to take any painkillers before I went in as I'm not keen on taking tablets unneccessarily. So, just decided to be brave and take them if I needed to. Anyway, went into the room and was a bit intimidated by the huge machine (felt like crying about having to go through things like this), but the doctor said it was usual to be nervous and said not to worry.

I had to strip off from waist down, put a gown on and lay on the bed, which the nurse then raised up so it was more at eye level with doctor (nice!) and lowered a monitor thing over me which would scan me. Doctor then inserted a clamp thing like they do when you have a smear and then inserted a tube into my womb. He then put the dye in (I had thought before there was going to be loads of the stuff but it was like a centimetre in a syringe!) I honestly barely felt it at all (just a very very slight dull ache) and it was really good as I could see it on screen and the doctor talked me through it all as the picture changed. The picture was REALLY weird as everything looked so small. My womb was like a little triangle and my tubes were just tiny squiggles and it all seemed to be on one side, but he reckoned that was perfectly normal.

He then said that was it, and the nurse went and got my hubby so he could hear the results with me. The doctor basically said it had all looked fine and he couldn't see any blockages - the liquid had gone into both tubes fine. So he just said the next thing is to see the consultant again and see what we do next.

That was it! They gave me a pad and he said I may get a little bleeding. I was ok for about an hour after then felt a gush of liquid! When I checked it was just very very pale beigey colour so I think that must have been a tiny bit of blood mixed with the dye (which is clear!). Nothing else, no more aches or anything. Just feel fine now! x
