I've just got back from an ultrasound, internal scan and HSG - not exactly the best way to spend my last day off of the Christmas holidays, but I actually feel great.

I have been stressing all Christmas about the HSG. I had read quite a lot about it on various forums and there were quite a lot mixed responses to it. I was dreadding it, I thought I'd need tomorrow off work to recover, I was seriously thinking the worse. So, now that it is all over I just wanted to reassure anybody that is planning on having one and let you know that it was actually, really ok. Ok, I understand that we all have different thresholds of pain and to be honest I am pathetic with any kind of pain (i tend to get dizzy and pass out!), but I was fine. It was like having a smear except when the dye goes in you get what feels exactly like mild period pains. It last 5 minutes tops and the only 'bad' thing is having to spread your legs for the radioologist - but hey we'll all have to get used to that! I had it done at Leeds LGI and the staff were wonderful.

In terms of my results, they've said everything is normal, so I am not sure what the next steps are. My OH has his third semen analysis in January and then I guess it is back to the specialist.

So if there is anyone out there worrying about the HSG like I did, please don't, it's fine :D

Thank you so much for posting this! I just went to my first appointment with a FS last Wednesday, and I have to call to make an appointment for an HSG as soon as I get my period. I've been thinking about it ever since and driving myself crazy with worry! I don't tolerate pain very well, and am a very nervous person! I know that everyone is different, but it's nice to know that your experience wasn't bad! Hopefully I can post the same once mine's over!

Thank you for posting! I'm having my HSG next Wednesday:) I'm more nervous that the test is gonna show blockages...

Thank you for posting!! I may get one next cycle. I'm really nervous about the pain based on some of the stories I've read, and of course, that the results won't be good. It's nice to hear that you have a low threshold for pain and tolerated it fine. Congrats on the good results!

Im glad your procedure went ok and everything is fine :)

Although i do feel people should prepare themselves for some pain as i think it depends- in my case they wasnt sure if my tube was blocked or spasming and my pain was terrible! I had a op tues and it was blocked but they unblocked it :)

Im sure many people dont have pain but some of us do, but this is a very reassuing thread and will help people to not be so nervous :) im glad you are fine x

It is a hard one with the HSG as before mine I had also read lots of posts about it being really painful. I was nervous but tried to stay relaxed and calm

The radiographer told me they have women who turn up having read stuff on the internet and they are literally shaking which just doesn't help things.

I had no pain at all. In fact when the doctor was removing everything I thought it was time for the dye until he said 'all done' and he showed me the pics!

Only late that night did I have slight cramping but nothing too painful.

The radiographer was a great help though as she was chatting away to me about Christmas and presents and stuff and it really took my mind of what was happening.

Thanks so much for posting this, my HSG is tomorrow! I'm glad yours went well, this makes me feel much better about it.

We will go back to the Dr. after we get my results. I have a Femerra prescription, but since my AMH is so low, he says it may not help, we are going to try it anyway and see what else the Dr. says... this is all very new to us both!

I just had mine done today, and everything was normal!!!! I have a high tolerance for pain, and that was quite painful for me. I think it just matters on your body, not your pain threshold. It brought me to tears, but once it was done I forget about the pain/discomfort.(until my adrenaline rush was gone, then just very mild pain) I was sooo thrilled everything was clear I started bawling, the DR kept asking me if my tears were happy or not lol. I'm now home in bed with cramping, glad I didn't have to go back to work today.

Omg, I've been stressing about this for a week now! My HSG was scheduled for today, but I had to cancel due to my period still being "a bit heavier" than they want it to. I will have to wait til next month since they won't be open this wknd. **I had a ruptured appendix when I was 4 and I'm just SURE the my tubes are blocked.** I'm soo happy yours came back clear

I had mine today as well and it was sooo not bad. I was having the "poor me, why am I here?" crying spout, but nothing due to pain. When they put the catheter in, I got a quick cramp, but nothing that was painful. Good luck to everyone!!

Well, I just want to say that I had my HSG today! I was so nervous, and am quite a wimp when it comes to going to the doctors and having anything done! It wasn't bad at all! I had mild cramping for a few minutes that felt similar to menstrual cramps, and then it was pretty much over! I know everyone's different, and hope it's as easy for the rest of you that have to get it done soon! Good luck!

Just wanted to update that I had my HSG Friday. My tubes are open and I didn't have any pain! :happydance: I found it to be uncomfortable, yes, but not painful. The worst part for me was the doc trying to get the balloon to stay in because my cervix opening was large at the time of the test. Otherwise, I didn't feel a thing when the dye went in.

I had mine today. No real pain. I took 2 aleve an hour before. My right side is blocked. Left she said had spillage. She used more dye to push through. Not entirely certain what that means. I'm waiting for follow up in 2 weeks

I'm booked to have mine on tues so thanks for posting these positive comments:flower:
