My hv told me to put Patrick on hungry baby milk but after a week on it he was terribly constipated - crying when pooing and it was green and like a sausage. I couldn't stand watching him straining anymore so put him back on stage 1.

Has this happened to anyone else? Should I have persevered?

I am not a big fan of hungry baby milk (made my LO very windy) but some people love it. TBH, I did not see a lot of difference in my LO's feeding habits between hbm and stage 1 milk. When my daughter suffered from (infrequent) constipation, I supplemented with water and, occasionally, gripe water.

I don't blame you for going back to stage 1 milk. Personally, I feel that you know your baby the best so try not to second-guess yourself.

It's up to you! If you think your LO is getting full enough with the stage 1 formula go for it! If not, it would be worth persevering with the HB. My LO has always suffered with constipation on and off, but actually since we switched to it we've had no problems. I've always offered a little water alongside - just a few sips every now and then, and that works wonders to keep things moving. At 4 months you could try offering some in a sippy cup if you want - Dylan loved having a cup like he'd seen his cousins using!

hi i put my daughter on hb food quite early on and it worked wonders shes always suffered from constipation tho so i used to give her prune juice in water did u gradually introduce the hungry baby milk cause its so much thicker than the normal 1 i used to give tilly normal all day then give her hungry baby last feed before bed then just start to introduce more of the hb and less of normal slowly. but like sumone else said u know ur baby btter than anyone so just do wat u think is right xx
