Is anyone thinking of doing this? Which CDs are you using?

Thanks

I did it for my son's birth. Loved it, and would do it for future babies. Really kept me calm, which helped with the pain and meant I barely pushed, my body just did it all. Can't remember which CD I used, I know my CD and book didn't match! Still worked.

I did hypnobirthing and had a successful med free birth with no fear. I had a prolonged labor and delivery and the hypnobirthing made it all so manageable. I also had a great doula!
I used the mongan method, but alerted things to suit me. the biggest thing to be learned is to let go of fear and learn to relax in labor. I'd say any method would work for that! gl!!!

Thanks ladies ive ordered a Maggie Howell cd so will see how I get on with that. I don't have a problem using pain relief but if I can get through without it then fantastic, or at least as far as possible on my own! I really like the idea of not screaming my head off and feeling in control :)

I used the Maggie Howell method as well and it was fantastic. I can't recommend it enough. I only ever needed a TENS machine and had a totally natural home birth with my first baby. My birth story is in my sig if you want to see how it works. Also, look for solitaire89's birth story as well. She also had a really great experience with it. Make sure you get the book as well. It's on of the best books on natural birth I've read.

Beat me to it MindUtopia ;)

I really recommend Natal Hypnotherapy - as has been said, I had a fantastic experience using it. I had a completely pain free, drug free labour and home birth. Best of all, it was also completely fear free.
I remained completely in control the whole time, working all day in labour, then going home and getting ready to go out for the evening. I realised that that wasn't going to happen, so got fish and chips, went for a walk, watched some of a dvd then had a sleep.
Labour and birth doesn't have to be the undignified event that it is so often portrayed as - it doesn't need to be accompanied by screaming and cussing, but can be a lovely calm experience.
I really pleased you went for the Natal Hypnotherapy, I had such a good experience with it that I recommend it to everyone who will listen to me! If you have any questions about it, feel free to shout me.

Thanks solitaire!
My cd arrived today! I realised I don't really have anywhere to listen to it haha other than through my tv (DVD player) so I think I might do that when I want my husband to listen to it too as I'd like him to have an idea of what I'm learning about, but I might also download it onto my iPad from iTunes as I can just plug in my headphones and concentrate then.
Really looking forward to getting stuck into it. I know it's early but the sooner I start hopefully the more prepared ill be, and also find out if its definitely for me but it does sound amazing. You have all definitely sold it to me!

I listened to my cd in the lounge (not through the dvd, but the cd player was directly underneath it!!) and just asked everyone else to keep in down in the house if they were in. I heard somewhere that it was good to play it "out loud" on occasion through so that the baby can hear it and then you can use the relaxing birth music to calm the baby once he/she arrives.

I started my birth prep cd at 30/32 weeks-ish, but then I had been using the pregnancy relaxation one since 12 weeks. I don't think there is a "too early to start", but, assuming that the birth prep still comes with the short relaxation track with no birth prep, I think I'd start with that for a few days/ weeks first to get you into the idea of how it works. Don't worry if you end up falling asleep and equally so, don't worry if you get to the end of it the first time and think that you didn't really relax it all - it's something that does take practice but when you've got it down to a fine art you worry that you didn't hear it!!

Let me know how you get on with it?

I bought the book on the Mongan method. My first labor was very fast (4 hours) and I was already dilated to 8cm when I got to the hospital. I was prepared for long labor and epidural so I kind of panicked when I realized this would be a natural birth. I'm glad I had that experience though as I am determined to go natural again. My DH isn't hugely supportive of hypnobirthing but is very supportive of a natural labor. So I'm just going to take things away from it that I can use and I'm sure it will help tremendously :)
