Hi
Tried putting this in naturalbirthing with no replys.

Was wondering if any uk ladies could recommend a hypnobirthing cd? Don't want to waste money on one and its not very good. With my DS I only had gas and air and diamorphen but hoping this time to have gas and air at the most as felt horrible after diamorphen and it made my DS very lazy and he had several doctors trying to get him to breath properly which was scary. Xx

im not sure about the cd's I might be able to give you more of an answer on Wednesday, im starting a hypnobirthing course :-)

I'm in Canada and I'm using hypnobabies, I think it's a us program but the self study modules are great!

Look up natal hypnotherapy, its a uk book and cds for birth preparation, I really enjoyed it all done at home.

I've been attending hypnobirth antenatal classes and they use The Hypnobirthing Book by Katharine Graves and a CD called River Dawn, Piano Meditations x

I can really highly recommend Natal Hypnotherapy. The object of the exercise is not a pain free birth, but comfortable birthing - having said that, I had a completely pain free, drug free and fear free labour and home birth using this programme of 4 cds, a book and 2 x 1 day courses. The biggest advantage of the Natal Hypnotherapy, for me, was the release from fear of labour, which in turn, allowed me to avoid the drugs I was also terrified of (a quick google of the side effects of any common drugs used in labour was enough to send me running for the hills).

I suppose what I'm trying to say is, what are you trying to achieve with your hypnotherapy programme? If it's purely pain relief, there are lots of natural things you can do too, and I would highly recommend Maggie Howells' book - Effective Birth Preparation. Although there is a section in the Natal Hypnotherapy "session" that uses a dial to turn the pain down, this should only be one item in your "tool box". Massage, positioning, aromatherapy, a birth pool, etc, can also be used to help you avoid the drugs. The biggest thing that the Natal Hypnotherapy cds do to reduce the pain is to remove the fear-tension-pain cycle. With labour there is a subconscious fear of labour, so you are tense when a contraction hits, so you feel pain. You then fear the next contraction, and tense up more, so it hurts more and the cycle is perpetuated. NH helps to remove this awful cycle - rather than tensing, you relax through a contraction and feel comfortable. Combine this with some rather powerful time distortion which makes contractions last mere seconds with hours between and you're on to a winner!

If you have any questions about it, feel free to shout me :)
