Hi all,

I just posted in my birthing month club about this, but i figured i'd see if any of you here know anything about this.

I was diagnosed with hyperprolactinema in 2002. It took us a long time to get pregnant but we managed with the help of dostinex. Just as that got sorted and i was starting to relax about this pregnancy, i got diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. I'm on eltroxin once daily (25 mcg) Anyways i'm just looking for a thread maybe where we can share our anxieties about this. As a first time mother, i'm already very nervous about everything:cry:

I'm having trouble keeping my meds down, has anyone had this experience? Should i mention it to my midwife/doctor or just take the pill at a different time?

Thanks in advance ladies. :hugs::hugs:

Hi,
I am on Synthroid and I never had a problem on it. I did loose my baby 3 weeks ago at 18 weeks but it had nothing to do with my Thyroid .
You just need to make sure your levels are ok and checked every 8 weeks, the baby's thyroid starts to function on it's own very early. I think you will be fine as long as you keep up with the testing
Good Luck :hugs:

i am also hypothyroid and am on 50 mcg's of synthroid. i have had no issues with it so far. i get tested once every trimester.

it really is nothing to worry about! as far as not keeping your meds down, try to find a time that you CAN.....

Hi Pisces,
I was diagnosed with maternal hypothyroid at 8 weeks and have finally leveled out on a 50 mcg Synthroid dose. I was told to take my meds on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. Also, I was told not to drink anything else for 30 min or eat for 1 hour after taking the meds. I was also told to take my multivitamin at least 4 hours apart as the vitamin can diminish the effects of your thyroid medicine. So I take my vitamin at night before bed and my thyroid meds first thing in the morning.
I hope you feel better soon! xx

Thanks everyone, i have been taking the eltroxin when i wake and i take the prenatals at dinner time. I just got such a scare when i read about this condition (evil google) thank god for this forum. Hope this thread helps other ladies going through the same, as i'm sure i'll pick up the wisdom as i go along :)

I've commented on a few hypo threads. I was diagnosed last year and was on 50mcg pre-pregnancy. My TSH skyrocketed in early pregnancy and I didn't get bloods done/meds increased until 6 weeks but all is well so far. My synthyroid has gone up to 125 mcg daily now, but my TSH at last check was about 2.5 and I expect it's gone down a bit since then. I'm currently 16+5, had an early scan where everything looked good, and heard the heartbeat today at my 16 week dr. appt.

I've been getting my bloods done about every 2-4 weeks (depending on when my Dr changed my dose, etc) and my Dr liaises with an endocrinologist for me to make sure treatment is okay. Baby starts producing their own thyroid hormones around 12 weeks, so most important in early pregnancy but for the most part the baby will just take what they need from your supplies before you get any (like everything else - ha!).

Dr. Google can be scary and just remember that most of the really scary stuff is about UN-medicated hypothyroidism, so as long as you're getting kept an eye on with bloods and meds checked regularly, it shouldn't be too big of an issue! :-)

Synthroid/thyroxine is totally safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, too. I've not had a problem keeping them done - I do far worse with my prenatal horse-size vitamins! lol!!

Hi,

I have Hypothyroidism too. Before i became pregnant i was on 100mcg per day and they has been upped to 125mcg per day during my pregnancy. I have my bloods done and see the endocrinologist at the hospital every 4 weeks. Thyroxine is totally safe during pregnancy.

Xx
