I am 2cm dilated and 80% effaced...

So I know that you really cannot tell when the baby will come but I am 37 weeks, is it normal to start dilating and effacing now? My mom is going to be here on Sep 4th and I really really want her here when i go into labor. Is there any other signs that would tell me the baby might come sooner? Also, after my internal I feel really sore and crampy, is that normal? Nervous and happy that my body is starting to get ready for his delivery!

Yea that's pretty normal. You can walk around dilated for weeks! Some ladies on here are 4-6cm and still nothing , My 2nd DS I was like 2 cm for weeks and still was induced at 40+3 .... so really you can go into labor an hour from now or 3 weeks from now, there really is no way to tell

That's crazy to walk around being 4-6cm. I just lost more of my mucous plug too and it was tinged with red. Is the bloody show a lot of blood? Can you go a long time also once you have lost your plug completely? will you know when it us completely gone? I know all this can mean nothing but I think I'm just gonna worry now. Maybe I should have told my dr I didn't want to know how far dilated or effaced I was. I really want him to stay in till at least the 4th.

It sounds like your show. I lost mine a couple weeks before my due date, but still was induced. It's good your so effaced though. I honestly don't remember how effaced I was, just that I was 2 cm for a long time. Even with show it can take awhile. You can go from not effaced or dilated at your dr apt one day and go into labor the next or you can walk around effaced and somewhat dilated for weeks. Some ladies don't drop, lose plug or anything right up until labor...and for others its a slow process. With my 2nd son I was excited to be effaced and dilated so early, thinking I would go early with him. My 1st I wouldn't soften or dilate...dr had to put this god awful stuff behind my cervix to soften me and get things started as I had to be induced due to rising liver enzymes...so I though for sure I would of went on my own seeing as my body was doing its job...but no, I still was induced at 40+3

Totally normal, and very well you could make it to your due date and even past it. Some dilate sooner and others don't. I walked around 2 weeks at 2cm an 75% and was induced at 39.5 weeks. My cousin was not even favorable for a sweep at her 38 week appointment, no dilation, no effaced and went into full blown labor 2 days later

I also lost so much of my plug from 37-39 weeks and some a little red, but nothing like a "big show" with blood. Still didn't come! Lol

So frustrating that there is no for sure sign that labor is coming soon. Hopefully he is preparing to come on my bday which is the 5th like my Dr. said, this is just Gods way of reminding us He is in control. I have to keep telling myself that lol.

I'm due oct 4th but FOB is hoping she comes on sept 30th, his bday.. I doubt it seeing as I went lte with my first 2. I'm preparing to be late but hoping I go at 39/40 on my own!

I'm actually due Sep 15th but my dr will induce at 39 weeks because of gd which puts me at Sep 8th. I really hope I can go in my own. I really really do not want to be induced. I was also born on my dads bday so if my son is born on our bday, we will have 3 generations to celebrate. It would be neat if your baby is born on your fob bday. It is a special connection.

I was 4cms when I went for a check up I nearly died didn't have any pain or anything I was sent straight to labour ward as it was my 4th child once I got there I was 6 CMs still no pain but they broke my waters so it is possible to not know on the other hand had I of not had a check up I would of probably had baby at home as only had 20 minutes pain before baby popped out so this time I'm really scared in case it happens again x

That would be scary to think if having baby at home unprepared. Wow only 20 min of pain?! Does labor get shorter the more kids you have?

At 37w with DD I went in for my check up and found to be at 3cm and 100% effaced. I delivered her that day, but only because I needed a C and was originally booked for a C a few weeks after my 37w appt and so the doctor didn't want me to go into full blown labor.

I think being a few cm dilated and mostly effaced by 37 is fairly normal!
