Hi ladies!

First time here! Totally new at this and I don't want to tell family yet so I feel so lost!

I called my appointment center today to see what I needed to do after a positive pregnancy test. From what I've read on here I thought I had to go in for bloods. But the lady I talked to made me an appointment at a different Kaiser for Prenatal care. I told her I wanted to stay with my current OBGYN and she said I could just mention that at the appointment. Then when I mentioned bloods she had no idea what I was talking about.

I'm so lost. Why am I going to a different doctor for my first visit? Maybe I'm just emotional right now but I don't want a new Dr. to see me, I want my OB!

I mean, she kind of made me feel like an idiot and now I'm on the verge of tears. I guess I'm just really uncomfortable with the thought of going to a different doctor.

Is this normal? To not get bloods taken and be sent to a different OB than your usual one?

I saw my OB 2 weeks ago for a pap (and she knows we are trying) and she couldn't wait till I came back for a prenatal appointment...I guess that's why I'm so confused.

I also go to Kaiser so I might be of some help. Unless there is a problem and I need to be seen right away, I've always been given the choice of who I want to see. I would call back and try to reschedule with your regular OB of that's who you want to see. The OB isn't the one who makes the appointments so mentioning it at your prenatal appointment isn't going to help. Sounds like you just got a bad receptionist.
As far as the blood work goes, they don't monitor it routinely here unless they have a reason. The only time I've had mine done is if i had bleeding early on, so don't worry too much about that. Your OB will order some standard blood work at your first appointment but you won't need to do anything before that appointment.
Hope that helps!

Congrats to you! I remember you from the TTC boards :)

As for the bloods. I never had them taken with my first two pregnancies. With my third, I was seeing a fertility specialist and I think it's more common at that point. This time I had bloods taken to confirm the pregnancy as I got pregnant directly after a mmc. So I wouldn't worry about not having bloods done to test for pregnancy.

As for your appointment....maybe just call and book an appointment with your regular OB. Don't tell them specifically what it's for though if they will make you switch doctors. Just make a general appointment and then once you see her maybe she can explain how it all works.

Try not to let everything stress you out right now...just enjoy :)

Thank you!! I called my OH and he said to call back again and get someone else. Good to know about Kaiser not really doing bloods...I was just so confused.

Thank you Thank you!

I feel much batter ladies! I'm going to call back right now!

Well I feel like a moron! lol

I just called back and spoke to another person, she said this is just an appointment to talk to a Nurse and maybe do some tests. THEN she will ask me who I want to see moving forward and I can say my normal OB in my regular office.

What a difference talking to someone else made! I thanked her repeatedly for taking the time to explain it to me! I feel so much better now!

Glad you've got it all straightened out! The nurse will probably do you initial intake forms. Lots if paperwork at that first appointment regarding family medical history (your and your DH's fimily) and probably urine and blood tests.

Again, congrats! I am very happy for you :)

I'm no help and it sounds like you're sorted now but just wanted to say congrats!

Congrats!! I remember you from the TTC forums!

I just had my first appointment last week and I also remember my first appointment with my daughter, I was so excited thinking something exciting will happen.. Boy was I wrong lol the first appointment (here anyways in the US) you don't even see the doctor and just fill out a lot of paperwork on health histories and they will ask you a few questions and they will ask you what doctor you would like and that is when you tell them. They also do blood work to check for things like anemia, RH factor, and they do routine STD screenings as well.

Beachy!! :hi:

CONGRATULATIONS!!! So pleased to see you over here x

I agree, that first appt is so anti climatic, lol. With the office I go to, we at least see the dr the first appt, but really just long enough to make sure nothing abnormal is going on and to address any concerns.

Congrats! Glad u got it all sorted.
