Because you didn't sign a contract I think it's highly unlikely you'll be able to take him to any court but I agree with the others you should definitely report him to watchdog and the other shows like cowboy builders. Maybe the BBC could also help you with making right the shoddy work he has done.

I think that you shoudl name ans shame him. And then we can all name and shame him on our FB and ask it gets passed on................If its true its not slander! SO effectively you could also set p a face book page.............documenting your struggle and do it liek a time line - and clearly name the guy.

They are legally binding. They have proof of payments, and likely the supplies he used, there will be a way to trace them back to him.
