Many years ago I knew a little girl named Kierstyn. (keer-stin)

I always thought it was a beautiful name. I just looked it up (US) and it's never made the top 1000! That surprises me.

I can't seem to find which spelling is the most common, although it comes up as a legit name (means "Christian woman").

Kierstyn (I prefer the "y")
Kierstan
Kierstin
Kiersten
Kierston

Keirstyn (I prefer the "y")
Keirstan
Keirstin
Keirsten
Keirston

What are your thoughts on this name? Have you known people named this? Which spelling do you prefer?

I know a couple of Kirstin's (all adults) who pronounce it Keer-stin; I also know a couple of Kirstin's who pronounce it Kur-stin, confusingly :haha:. I've not seen in spelt another way. I'm in the UK though.

I went to high school with a Kierstin (I think that's how she spelt it?) Keer.stin

I also have a cousin (5 years old) named Kiersten (keer.stin)

I had a friend named Kirsten also. Kur.stin

Doesn't seem unusual to me at all, but honestly I'm not sure on the spellings

Oops - it has made the top 1000 in the past. I just found it on the gov website.

With the spelling Kiersten only - it has been in the top 1000 (but not since 2011 when it was at #884). It peaked in 1996 at it's most popular when it came in #424. Still a lot less popular than I would have assumed!!

Do you guys like the name? Do think it's pretty? Does it sound like a "90s" name to you?

It does sound very 90s to me and immediately makes me think of Kirsten Dunst.

I would spell it Keirsten as that looks the 'neatest' plus it's sort of just adding on to the male name Keir.

I feel like it's one of those names that she would be forever correcting pronunciation and spelling for people. I know that doesn't really bother some people but as someone who grew up doing it, I'm not a fan.

I like the way it sounds, I think it is pretty. It does sound very 90's to me but not in a bad way. I'd be put off by the mispronunciation thing though, only because the one Kirstin (pronounced Keer-stin) who I know fairly well moans about how people get her name wrong all the time (she is a school administrator and constantly has parents calling asking to speak to Kristen/Kur-stin about stuff). But none of them are well used names in the UK s it might well be different in the US where I think it is more well known.

I have a friend called Kirsten (Ker-sten) I love the name

I'm in the UK, I have met a few Kirsten/Kirstins (KERR-STIN) but only one Keirstyn (KEER-STIN) - she spelt it kyrstin x :flower:

I knew a Kiersten in elementary school. It does sound pretty 1990's to me, mostly because I was in elementary school when I knew her in the 90's.

Kirsten Dunst pronounces her name this way, and Kirsten/Kirstin seem quite common. Does sound very 90s to me, yeah.

I've never seen the spelling Kierstyn before or any of the other derivatives you listed, but I am in a different country to you. The only person I've really heard of whose name is pronounced like that is Kirsten Dunst, and in NZ we pronounce that name spelling Kerr-sten. So it is more unusual from my perspective and I wouldn't get the spelling right without asking, but I do think it sounds quite pretty. So it's really up to you.
