Just a bit of a pointless whining thread really but I'm really down about money.

My OH earns just above the cut-off for claiming any kind of tax credits so we get zero but he achieves his income by doing loads of over-time so he works 6 days 8am-6:30pm per week, and we have one single day together as a family.

I'm just a bit gutted by the amount of friends we have with children and one of them just works part-time and they end up with not that much less each month than us due to tax credits.

I'm doing an Open Uni degree because I really want to be a teacher. But this is not recognised by the govenment either so I don't get any help with childcare to help me study (which is intense) so it's such a struggle to do my degree with a toddler, since my OH is always working and not available to help. Just seems as though we really lose out at the moment.

Tax credits confuse me. The online calculator said we should get £200 a month but we only get £50 a month??

How does that work? What are the cut offs?

Which online calculator do you use?

The cut-offs are different depending on how many hours are worked, how many children you have, whether you pay for nursery etc.

Have found out we will be entitled again to a teeny bit when we have another baby which has cheered me up because we were thinking we wouldn't be able to have anymore due to money xx
