I'm not sure if i'm posting in the right place so forgive if i've got it wrong!

I'm 28 been trying to loose weight for 4 years (never managed to shift more than 7lbs) when i was at uni (6 years ago) i successfully lost about 36lbs but not managed to keep it off.

anyway speeding on i had tests at the hospital which determined i had IBS. they never did any bloodworks or anything, just internals

so for 4 years i've been unsuccessful loosing weight, i suffer with fatigue, constipation (despite IBS meds) and long, infrequent cycles which i discovered when i came off the pill to TTC last year. (6 cycles in 12months)

anyway i had some fertility tests at the hospital (despite being PG when i turned up for the fertility specialist appointment) and they took blood etc.

I went to the GP yesterday to confirm my pregnancy with her and my tests had come back stating i was hypothyroid! Midwife was in a frenzy as i hadn't met her yet and i now fall in the risk category as my thyroid issue is currently untreated!

so got home did a bit of research and it seems to tick all the boxes for the issues i've suffered with for 4 years!! i do wonder why blood tests were never done before, my IBS could have been my thyroid issue all along! but it also explains why i have such a hard time loosing weight. been going to SW for years and it just stopped working and since PG i've lost 6lbs without even trying!!! :dohh:

i guess i'm not wanting answers to my thread but i guess i'm more peeved that i was put through all those horrid IBS tests to rule out chrons disease and bowel cancers for nothing!

Thanks for listening!

glad u have finally got to the bottom ofit hun xx

glad you've finally been diagnosed.

Hi hun,

im glad they found it and in the nick of time!! Its vital to have this checked particularly early in pg. I just got diagnosed after having tests after my 2 mc's. I was told that was most likely the reason for my mc's as everything else was fine. Ive been on medication for 2 weeks but already feel different- im hoping the weight will come off too :)

I can understand you being annoyed this wasnt checked earlier- its suprising how common it is!!!

Good luck with everything, hun,

Hugs, Omi xxx

Thanks Omi, Yes the weight has started to come off - i've lost 7.5lbs since getting pregnant yet before i struggled with my weight i was 1lb on one week off the next like a yo-yo!

I just hope that the consultant next week is happy for me to continue with my slimming world group and steadily lose/maintain my weight (i'm already a large lady) i don't want to get much bigger through pregnancy if it can be avoided as it will be detrimental to my asthma.
