Hey ladies,

I have a confession to make. I've always had an addiction to pickles.

I eat pickles in my tuna fish, all sandwiches must have, pickles by itself, tabasco sauce on pickles, pickle sandwich--yes, pickles, mustard and bread THAT'S IT.

When I was pregnant with my DD I knew before taking the HPT because I kept vomiting after each pickle I ate, and knew I was pregnant with a boy last pregnancy (and believe to be pregnant with a boy again) because I ate pickles non stop.

However, I took it to the extreme yesterday. I, I mean, *gulp*, hard to type this but a…….I ATE THE ENTIRE (LARGE) JAR INCLUDING…GET READY FOR THIS…….INCLUDING THE PICKLE JUICE!!!!!!!!!!

I've always loved pickle juice but would take a sip here and there (my own personal jar), but I've never consumed an entire jar of pickles in one sitting with the juice.

I stepped on the scale this morning 5-6 pounds heavier and super swollen.

Help, I have a prenatal appointment in 2 days (thursday morning) and need the water retention from the salt gone before my weigh-in. I already gained "real" weight since my first prenatal appointment plus the pickle weight of 5-6 pounds will make me look real bad to my doctor and the assistants.

I'm already drinking plenty of water….how much water is needed? Also, any other tips (can't involve caffeine), thanks.

Water is good, but another thing that helps get rid of that extra water weight is anything with electrolytes like gatorade, power ade or even smart water. Just keep drinking as much water as possible.

In fact, I'd probably recommend smart water if you can get it over the other two options. Because then you don't risk taking in any extra sodium.

I love pickles and could probably do that myself pretty easily. Avoid the Gatorade and Powerade though - no need for all that sugar - go for the smartwater if you have it by you or other electrolyte enhanced water.
I think maybe you could also try to sweat some of it out like lie under a bunch of heavy blankets or take a little walk in the sun if it is summer where you are and you are up for it. But I don't have scientific evidence for that - just going on the idea that saunas can help but you shouldn't do saunas when preg.

Hmmm, where I live it's summer ALL year round. May go outside and clean up the kiddies toys, I'll break a sweat just exposing myself to the outdoors, lol. Thanks.

OMG I'm sooo happy I'm not alone!! I thought I was SO weird for my pickle binge. I haven't really had any these last couple of days due to morning sickness  but I still crave them like crazy. I'm scared they won't stay down and I can't enjoy the taste lol..This is so weird that someone else is like me, my hubby thinks I'm the only pregnant woman in the World who eats pickles 24/7 for the last 2 weeks. That's the only food that I've eaten. I don't need it go on or with anything, I eat them straight from the package (the Hot ones) or from the jar. Nothing else appeals to me.
Oh yeah, if I didn't get one when I wanted it, there was hell to pay. Not that I'm proud of that, but the craving was REAL!! I've gained a for sure 9 lbs and there is nothing else to blame but PICKLES

YES, THE HOT ONES!! I love the hot ones in those individual packages--I find mine at the deli.

My rule in my home is, if you see one pickle in the jar--lord help you if you take it from me.

This isn't good. I know I don't need to tell you that, but from a health stand point (I am a RN) this is extremely unhealthy, the sodium levels in the pickles and pickle juice by itself is extreme, TOGETHER....is a totally different combo all together. You are looking at hypertension and extreme fluid retention among other things. Long term pregnancy effects include preeclampsia which is NO joke.

MY advice? Cut back on the salt IMMEDIATELY, lots of water (half you body weight in oz). NOT waters with electrolytes as those contain sodium as well and are LOADED with sugar...those are meant for people participating in high performance sports.

Sorry, I don't want to scare you. Pregnancy is, I believe, a time to indulge...but not on salt when it it can really put you and your baby in harms way.

P.S Its a hilarious visual.

For the future make these!

I've learned my lesson. Moderation. :flower:

Ahhhh, thanks!! My hubby sliced up some cucumbers into spear shapes and put it in a pickle jar that (hard to believe) still had it's brine. This looks a lot better and healthier!! I'll try it…thanks for researching it Mintastic. Btw, every time I see your screename I want a mint york peppermint patty, haha.

My 4 year old is addicted to pickles. She even tries to sneak into the fridge and drink the pickle juice when we aren't looking! I thought she was the only one lol!

Add lemon to ur water, its a natural diuretic. Personally, I would avoid any of the electrolyte drinks, as s major component to them is sodium. Lots of water with lemon will help tremendously.
