Hi girls I got the job I was looking at :) but the only problem is...well...not really a problem but I have been working for my other two jobs for four years... To suddenly go to another job is not so much a problem apart from my oh and I are going to start trying for a baby after we get married end of August...

How long do u have to work at a company before you get maternity pay? And do you think they will be annoyed taking me on if I get pregnant a few months after starting a new job?

Xxx

In the uk you qualify after working at a job a week or two before actually conceiving. However, you could also qualify for different pay (same money pretty much) if you have worked for the year before hand, which you have. Saying that, some employer have added maternity pay benefits and this is at the employers discretion so you would need to look in your contract xx

It's much different where you live I'm sure- I had to be at my job 12mos to qualify for 10wks materinty leave pay at 80%, to qualify for 100% pay I would have to be here 5yrs.

Our state laws are different- they would have to give me the time off, but whether they pay or not is strictly up to the company itself. My SIL got 4mos off- but no pay. I couldn't afford to take that much time off work without pay- and with my job I doubt they would have agreed to it anyway. I was lucky I got 2extra wks off no pay approved by my manager before I went on leave...

I wish it was cut and dry- 6mos off with full pay! Yup, that would have been nice :)

I would also check your company's maternity policy.

I got a job when I was 25 weeks pregnant and didn't qualify for anything so had to claim MA off the government (my contract ended with my old employer).

Some places need you to work there for a certain amount of time before you can claim anything, so I'd definitely check their policies

To get SMP in the UK you basically have to be working for the company on the first day of your period of the cycle you conceive in. However to get company maternity pay you need to read the company policy document, I work for a council and I have to have worked there a year to get their enhanced pay.
