I have been thinking about how to do my daughter's nursery and I was looking at some bedding. Why is it justifiable to pay $100 dollars for something the baby really isn't going to use? I mean babies don't sleep with quilts??? I just don't understand the purpose at all.

I was thinking the same thing! all the bedding sets and everything are pretty expensive. I think its because they know that we will spend the money on our baby so they can charge what they want.

I put one from Target on my registry, it was $60 I think...but hopefully someone else will buy it cuz I don't want to have to get it myself :haha:

I was thinking the same thing... I highly doubt I'll buy any bedding. I was thinking about maybe making a bed skirt to go underneath, that's all. I will just buy some nice sheets. Baby will be swaddled anyway and there's no way I'm going to be "making the bed" for guests to see and undoing it at bedtime.

If you want one though, totally put it on your registry or ask someone directly to buy it as your gift. That's assuming you have people to buy things for you... We don't :(

I was told that the quilt works good to lay on the ground for tummy time once baby can lift his/her head. I know they can't sleep with it, but I put one on my registry for that reason.

IDK  decoration mostly for now! Hoping someone buys mine :haha:

I'm hoping actually my hubby's grandmother makes us a quilt like she did for our wedding :D that would quench any desire for a baby quilt without having to dish over ridiculous amounts of money for it. Plus family made quilts have more sentimental meaning to it :D

if not, we certainly will have to go without, because we don't have the money for a crazy expensive quilt that will rarely get used

I personally think its much more fun to make them yourself. It's cheaper and its really relaxing. Buy a few books on quilting it is so easy. The woman who lives downstairs had a rough time and had to move out domestic violence issues, she likes to quilt. I am going to ask her to join me and quilt for a bit. They even have mommy quilting, knitting, crocheting in my area, see if you can find a place. I cant justify paying $100 or even $50 for something I can make myself in a week or two

I have no idea... Even his bedroom won't be a nursery thing... We are doing colors he can grow into.. For bedding I registered for crib sheets and various blankets.. but no decorative bumpers, quilt etc....

There is no point at all to them but like said above they do come in handy to put on the floor to give baby tummy time. I can not see the point in paying loads for them as they don't get used for what they are ment for.

I have the set, and I find once baby is over a year old you can *tuck* them in..my toddler hes, 18 months old and he wraps himself in his quilt now. He is soon to be using a toddler bedding set, but his quilt off his crib set is his security blanket. :) its a pain in the butt if he messes it with pee, puke etc, i have to constantly wash it, but thats ok. :)
I never had a set with my 2nd, 3rd .. so its all a personal preference

I used plenty of blankets but only the ones meant for wrapping, not for the cot itself. What I found was the cot mattress I bought was very hard so I laid a thin blanket on top, also meant for wrapping, and that kept baby nice and warm as he was swaddled and in a onesie :)

I feel the same way. I am just getting a crib skirt and different sheets. I don't see any sense in buying a bedding set for $200 when I will only use the sheets and skirt. I have a feeling someone will be making a handmade quilt for baby anyway! I'm sure I will get many things at the shower.

With my first child, I bought two set of bedding which and I bought a matching sleepsack thing. I never used any of it apart from the sleep sack. i didn't used the quilt and I didn't used the bumper as your not really supposed to either.

Baby got swaddled as a newborn so she had that plus any layers that needed put on.

I dont think Aleesha got a bumper until she was more mobile (8 months?) I can't remember but it was a special breathable bumper.

This time around im just going to do the same, you can buy really pretty knitted handmade covers and then lots of thinner blankets to add layers.

I've haven't used a quilt till at least 2.5yrs! Ds2 is still in a grow bag and he'll be stating in it until at least 2 when next baby comes along and I'll have to think about moving him to a big bed :(

I think it's all just marketed at new Mums who are excited about all the nursery matching, quilts, bumpers, wall art, soft toys. In reality when all the sheets and bedding are getting constantly washed because they are covered in drool, sick etc you kinda don'tr care what the bedding is as long as it is clean and dry for lil one. Same with clothes, I wanted the twins to have bibs that matched each outfit etc etc and to be honest I just grab whatever is to hand at the time, they wear whatever is cleanly washed and to be honest they grow so fast I wish I'd just bought the cheap vests and all in ones than getting people to buy Disney stuff as they only wore some items two or three times max :( xx

I got a 100.00 blanket first pregnancy, never EVER use it or anything that came with it. It was pretty much for me to look at walking into the room before he was born. Next time I will not be wasting money on so many useless things.
Buying sheets only!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wont be buying any bedding for mine because, as you say, its a waste of money. Im making a quilt for the floor so bubba can have tummy time and we have a playmat too but all that will be in his cot will be a mattress/sheets and either swaddling stuff or grobags. x

There's just a lot of money to be made from babies so companies sell all sorts of crap you don't need. Pisses me off!

I'm making a crochet quilt like thing for her. I plan on buying some sheets and some swaddled although my son hated being swaddled. I don't have people willing to buy for me so no need for a registry.
