A friend of mine gave me some blankets and sheets, I find if you know someone who is not using them they will give them to you. For the first 8 months or so you will only swaddle them in recieving blankets really. A blanket won't be necessary for some time. So I will be using crib sheets, and the blankets will be used for tummy time.
What are receiving blankets? Is that like cellular blankets (the ones with holes in for ventilation??) How many do you think I will need? (its my first and Im clueless) x
I'd say go with about five blankets big enough to wrap the baby in fully, and depending on how much you intend to use your pram, between two and five smaller pram size blankets - in the early days you need lots as baby will sick all over them and nappies will leak etc and you won't want to be washing twice a day.
I think the main purpose of matching bedding sets for babies is to part hormonal women from a large wad of cash

In the name of making the nursery 'perfect', you obviously MUST have all matching, beautiful bedding, so you can go in and coo over it while lovingly stroking your bump and imagining your little darling peacefully sleeping in that cot. Fast forward a few months and the bedding will be abandoned and the baby sleeping sprawled at odd angles in the cot with blankets half hanging off his bum and any decorative items/toys etc chucked all over the floor! You'll long ago have got over the desire to make anything match and just settle for blankets that are clean(ish) and not covered in puke.
