i just dont get it pre making feeds!

Take a clean bottle, a separate bottle of clean water and shake and serve room temperature. Then again we Americans don't sterilize the baby powder formula. I honestly do not think except for preemies a bottle every once in a while mixed this way will do any harm. Millions of babies eat this way all the time and are not worse for it.

I'm so glad I don't have to keep milk cold, find a place to warm it - one of the perks of formula feeding over using expressed milk.

Nope, in my nhs birth to 5 years book it tells you how to premake bottles.

I had a maternity nurse and she told me to pour boiled water into the bottles and seal them, do all of the days bottles like this in the morning and leave on the side, then I take one of the bottles out with me and a pot of powder and mix it at room temp then give to baby.

Some people don't agree with this but my NCT friend, also a doctor also premade bottles this way and said it was fine.

Never caused any problems for me or lo.

^^ WSS, plus with the milk that I am using (SMA staydown) the water needs to be cold

The only problem with mixing the water at room temperature is that whilst the bottle is sterile and the water is the powder isnt.

Thing is this has been doen by many mums for years, with no problems. Also all formula manufactures here in Australia, recommend for their formula to be made up with cooled boiled water, so thats good enough for me. If at home tho u can always make up with the hot water for peace of mind.

And outside of a hospital, true sterilization doesnt exist, but obviously doing so ensures the bottles are as clean as possible x

The safest way to do it is to premake the bottles with freshly boiled water (well cool for 5 - 20mins) cool them quickly in a pot of cold water then put them in the back of the fridge to cool them right down. When needed take them out in a cool bag - my TT bags say up to 6hours. I take a little flask of boiling water to heat them xx
Adding formula to water that has only cooled for this amount of time kills some of the vitamins etc in the formula ive heard?

Thats why if u want to do it this way the water needs to cool for 30-40 mins

What i do is say im giving LO 180ml, i measure 100ml of cooled boiled water in a bottle and stick in the fridge, then when its feeding time, i boil the kettle, add the other 80ml straight to the 100ml and mix then add powder, is almost at the perfect temp to feed straight away (i usually stand in cold water for literally a minute), and this way is made fresh, but quick to serve :)

You don't have to keep expressed milk cold. After expressing, it is good at room temperature for 6 hours. And I've taken it out of the fridge in the morning and brought with me out and then used it a few hours later without heating it up. Oh, and just so you don't think I'm being snotty, I have nothing against formula (it saved us the first couple weeks when my milk came in really really late) and would use it again in a heartbeat if I had to. I just wanted to clear up that misconception.

When I go out with Ava I just measure out how much water she needs in each bottle. I use bottled water slit doesn't need to be boiled. I then measure out how much formula she needs in separate baggys. When she gets hungry I just add the pre measured powder to the pre measured water shake and serve at room tempurature. She doesn't seem to notice. I have never boiled any of Ava's water A. Because I use bottled water and B. Because my doctor told me I don't have to worry about the powder being contaminated unless I'm shoving my dirty hands in it which don't. I wash my hands before using the scoop and wash the scoop when I'm done. Ava has only ever been sick once with a cold at 2 weeks but I was breastfeeding then so I know it had nothing to do with formula mixing. As for at home I just pre make at night out in the fridge and warm as needed during the day. Also when I'm out if I run out of water it easy to grab a bottle of water somewhere. Sometimes I even pack an extra just in case and I always have extra badges of formula in her diaper bag. Hope this helps a little. I really thi k as long as your not putting dirty hands in the container you don't really have to worry about the formula being germy. Besides babies put everything in their mouth and we don't/can't sterilize everything.

I work in a day nursery and we've been told by health professionals that it's safe to add powder to room temp water as long as you use the milk within an hour.

I boil the kettle when I get up, then make all her bottles to last til the next morning with whatver temperature the water has cooled to in the time I've been settling LO and have tim to make them, if the water is still hot i'll add powder, cool them and put in th fridge, if th water is cold, i add milk and put in the frdge. then take thm out and heat to room temp when i need them. If i'm going out i'll take however many i need out the fridge in time so that they have warmd to room temp on their own by the time she wants them.

I'm sure there are many things there that a lot of people wont agree with, but I'v been doing it that way for 11 years now without a single problem or illness, it works for me, so thats how i do it!

I premake and keep the days feeds in the fridge for 24 hours. I being a bottle from the fridge in a cool bag with an ice pack if out for less than 4 hours. If longer I bring sterilised bottles and cartons which are so handy and remove all bacteria worries.

I guess it's just like the formula preparation rules. So many ways of doing things. I'd never want to serve BM left out for six hours even more so if it's had time to get to room temp.

I exclusively pumped and was told 4 hours max at room temp and to avoid it. So pumped milk went to baby or into the back of the fridge\freezer. If I carried it out I used ice packs to keep it out of the danger zone[where bacteria could grow].

So yeah as I've stated I'm glad the days of having to keep milk on ice are behind me.

I leave a bottle of boiled water in a bottle warmer. When she's ready to feed I mix the warmed sterlized water with formula. No the formula isn't sterile but as long as you keep your hands sterile everytime you deal with formula, you shouldn't have any problems. If you handle formula with dirty hands once you can contaminate the whole can.
