I need someone in the same situation as me to compare benefits with, as just got my housing benefit through and i think it's wrong, but if i can compare with someone in the same situation then i will know for sure whether i think i should appeal it or not.

I know that everyone's situation is different so the amounts wont be exact, but they should be similar.

So if anyone here is a single mum, living in her own (rented) place, that works around 16 hours for minimum (well, just above) wage - then please PM so we can compare benefits! (if that is ok with you of course)

You would be doing me a huge favour, thanks in advance xx

I'm going back to work pt in jan hun but i've already found out what i'll be getting. Not a lot for HB that's for sure! Feel free to pm x

tried to pm you but it says your inbox is full and you need to clear some space lol x

hey hun i've been told by the local council that as of the next tax year i should get about £80 a week in housing benefit plus £17 a week council tax benefit (nd a 25% reduction of the overall council tax bill).
i'll be earnin about £100 a week over 16 hours.
xx

i think it does depend on ur local housing allowance nd area tho... have u checked the lha of ur local council? xx

Oooops! There is space now!

I'll get about 20pw HB when i go back to work and the LHA here is 126 too x

my lha is £103 a week i think.
either way i'm pretty lucky with my rent situation... i'm movin into my grandad's old house (he died a few months ago)... basically the house got left to my dad so i'm jus gettin my hb paid to him (whatever it may be) nd i'll pay the bills... the house would jus be sat empty otherwise because my dad couldn't bear to have anyone else livin in the house.
xx

Oooh... just recalculated and i'll get 80pw HB when i change to p/t!

Ahh, why is everyone getting more than me?! *hissy fit*

I'm just going to appeal their decision, i reall think it is wrong! Humph.

The online things all over-estimated me, as did the jobcentre, Have you got it sorted now? If you want to PM me you can, I work 17hours pw for £1 per hour more than you x

Im only doing 12 hours a week at £5.98 an hour because my job couldn't give me more hours and I rely on my mum (full time student) to mind LO.

If you want you can pm me and compare whether doing less hours or more hours will make you and Bella better off!

It would be useful as well to me  Because I might need to start looking for a new job in the new year with more hours and use a childminder/nursery for LO and don't have a clue about finances etc

I think you know my details already? But feel free to PM me if you want any help with it.

well, you all seem to get alot more than i get over here in canada!! (i'm not single, but claiming as single, since i'm also not married )

I don't know what all these benefits are exactly, but i do know that £126/week is about $200!

The only thing I will be getting for benefits is about $109 per week!
Plus my maternity pay that i'm entitled to, which is $154 per week
not even sure how i'm going to get by TBH

I need to move over to the UK asap!

no because u would not get these benefits because as u said... ur not single... if u tried to get claim single benefits in this country when u were not single u would get arrested for benefit fraud.
ur not classed as single in this country jus for not bein married... ur classed as single when u are the sole nd only provider of the child... which is why we are entitled to the help.
plus in this country (pre-pregnancy) the amount of tax we pay is a hell of a lot higher than in any other country... i know the sheer amount of tax i paid last year makes my eyes water... so i'm entitled to the help i get.

in canada you can either claim as single, or married/common law. if i claimed common law i would get nothing. i claim as single, have been for years, and will when LO comes as well that way they do not consider anyones income but my own. so as far as my claim, i will be the sole provider to my LO.
i'm not sure what tax rates are in UK so i can't comment on that either way

 You claim as a single parent but are infact part of a couple? You have a boyfriend supporting you? You have someone to share bills with? In the UK you could face jailtime for that. Its deception

... That's illegal. You put shame on the honest tax-payer. Be glad you're not in England, i'd be in two minds whether to report you.

Child Tax Credit - £65.17 per week
Working Tax Credit - £213.15 per week
Housing Benefit - £121.91 per week
Council Tax Benefit - £21.76 per week

Benefits advisor is telling me i should get this.

But i don't! No where near!! Why would it be so different??
