I Need A Single, Part-Time Working Mum That Lives On Her Own!

OMG 213 WTC ????? WOW! I dont get NEARLY as much as that. My WTC and CTC are basically the same. And HB is less than 100 a week too, God, maybe i should be appealling too?!

I work P/T, single mum I earn £111 a week, I get wtc and ctc but I dont qualify for any HB or CTB :( I live in rented accomodation, I get the 25% CT reduction because I live alone but that is it. A couple of years ago I went on sick leave for 3 months after an operation (I got income support as my wage wasnt high enough for NI contributions which means I didnt qualify for SSP) and I then qualified for £53pw HB (50% of my rent) but as soon as I went back to work that stopped and I didnt qualify for anymore HB.

Well i just called tax credits (cuz they wanna give me over a grand a month according to me 'estimate') and they have told me they are sure the amount i'm getting is correct, and lots of times these estimates are wrong blah blah blah. We went through all my details and apprently i am getting the right amount (tax credit wise) but he is going to send me out all my info so i can go through it myself and can call back if i find any problems.

However i have written out a letter im going to send to housing benefit because i really do think they might be wrong (more like i hope they are, lol) because i've been on about 5 different benefit calculators, and though they are all giving me slightly different amounts, they all think i should be getting more HB! Humph.

That sounds wrong! You might want to think about appealing too hun, on working part time you should be entitled to some kind of HB!

You should defo be entitled to some housing benefit hun x

bloodbinds.... I do think new laws in April 2010 mean I should reapply for HB as they no longer take into consideration the child element of the tax credits. I think with HB it depends on your accomodation. The council run a fair rent policy.. so if you live in a 1 bed flat and pay £200pw they wouldnt deem this as fair rent, they'd say that maybe the rent should be £100pw and so will pay you the qualifying percentage of the £100pw (if that makes any sense). They only pay a percentage of the actual rent if they deem it as a fair amount to pay (I think this applies when renting privately or by association.. council properties are different). There is no harm in you appealling the decision, the worst they can say is that it'll stay the same, you dont lose anything but a bit of time.. but you could gain extra HB and it'll have been worthwhile xx

I'm in the same situation as you hun, I'm a single Mum, work 16 hours a week and earn just about the minimum wage (about £100 per week). Rent is higher here probably so HB might be different but PM me if you want to know anymore.

I've just done a calculation on the tax credits and it's more than what I actually get as well by about £100 a month but tax credits is just weird so I haven't appealed it with them because they always seem to be able to find some explanation to say that they're right or that you owe them money.

when i was working 16 houres i only got £50 a week out of the 103 it costs a week to rent
i also got

£55 child tax credit
62 working tax credit
20 child benifit
60of the babys dad a week
and £1.50 a week off council tax (i'd also have an outgoing of £120 a week for childcare)

i quit my job cause i get more money and more satisfaction of looking after my baby by not working! also my old job was in sales and i used to earn a hell of a lot of bonus but it wasnt gaurenteed every month so i'd be ringing tax credits and housing benifit and be in a mess everymonth and it woulda been a hell of a lot of stress

not working i get

£103 a week housing benifit
my council tax paid in full
no childcare costs
£7.20 a week in healthy start vouchers/free prescriptions etc/free swimming in our local area
£65 child tax credit a week
£65income support a week
£60maintenece a week
£20child benifit a week

hope this helps, if not i can always hunt for the print outs they did at the job centre. I saw a lone parent advisor
