If I have private tests will I no longer qualify for NHS?

Please help! I am at another 'I can't do this anymore' point and I need advice.I am now looking into having private tests done.

Reasons - always had a weight problem. I have lost over a stone so far. I have been trying for my first baby for over two years now and NHS will not do a HSG until I have lost another 3 stone! In the meantime I am going CRAZY.

Can I pay for private HSG to try and find out more quickly if my tubes look ok?

Blood tests on nhs show strong ovulation, I have clockwork periods despite being overweight and so it must have something to do with the tubes? I just want someone to have a look.
I know some of you will think I am an idiot and think well if I wanted a baby that badly I would stick to a bloody diet and shift the weight quickly but after suffering with an eating disorder for 20 years it really isn't that easy.

Advice please ladies.

I'm not sure about how it works over where you are. UK?? but here in NZ doing things privately doesn't change eligibility for public later on in the track. I'm sure no body on here is going to hold your weight against you hun. Loosing a stone is no easy feat, your doing well keep it up. loosing it slowly means it is more likely to stay off so your doing just fine :D
You could phone the nurses station at your GP to find out for sure but I don't see any reason why paying for it yourself will change your eligibility later on.

Good luck hun

I know that the NHS wouldn't do blood tests that the private clinic asked us to get done (well we did actually have one dr in our surgery that was prepared to) but I don't think having tests done privately will penalise you. I know that although we have had a private ICSI cycle, we are still eligable for our NHS one until we have had a successful cycle.

My advice would be to get the test done. We TTC'ed for 12 months before finding out we would NEVER get pregnant naturally so I would def recommend ruling out any issues asap. You could check with your GP / private clinic just to make sure but I think worst case scenario, the NHS would want them done again further down the line.

Wishing you all the best and also with your weightloss. 1 stone is a great start!!! x

You need to check your NHS PCT's area policy - it will specify the impact of private treatment.

I had most of my tests done privately and 2 IVF rounds and was still eligible for a further NHS IVF round :flower:

When I enquired about private HCG they needed a referral from GP (even though I was going to pay for it!!!!) Double check with your area as I think they're all different. x

Well worth checking, but generally getting your tests done privately doesn't affect your NHS treatment later - it just speeds it up.

I had my AMH tests done privately as the NHS don't do them
And went for a private consultation about getting a hystoscopy and the lovely consultant put me on her NHS list to have it done for free the very next week :D
