i thought weaning was going to be fun :( but im totally confused and getting worked up and i dont feel like i have anyone to turn to or get advice from so im hoping you guys can help me. We have slowly over the pat 6-7 weeks been weaning Sophie starting with 1 meal a day and now we are onto 3. obviously this is affecting the amount of milk she is drinking. She has 4 bottles a day but will only have 4-5oz (but always 5oz) which inst enough as she needs at least 20oz in total i have read. So i was thinking it would be an idea to recude her bottle to 3 a day, but, then obviously give her more milk in 1 sitting. I think she would take more this way as she is going longer between feeds. Then with her 3 meals inbetween this seems ok. I just wanted to know what others have done at this stage and if my way sounds ok? ta

Hi hun. I think ur LO's routine is fine.

At 6 mnths+ she needs between 18-21 oz with her 3 meals. Omar is not a big drinker. At 6.5 mnths he was taking 3 bottles between 12-18 oz with only 1 solid. He started having a routine of 3 solids & 3 bottles at 8 mnths. His intake now varies between 15-18 oz. He might go for 20 oz in odd days when he skip dinner. He's not a big eater, & doesnt take any snacks. U can offer her dairy (yoghurt, cheese, cream in food, etc.) to make up for the dropped ozs. I give Omar yoghurt daily. If she's gaining weight, there is nothing to worry about. Omar is a big baby at the 90th percentile. He never went for more than 24-28 oz of formula at 4 mnths & he was not weaned yet, & only for few days.

What you are doing sounds good.

Anna is 8 months and she has never been a big milk drinker. I feel she is enjoying her food though so am not worried as long as she is getting around 20oz a day. She could never go to 3 bottles as she can only take 4/5oz max at a time - it might work for your LO though - no harm to give it a shot.

Anna has yoghurt every day and I put an oz or half oz milk in her dinner too.

Anna has food first and then 4oz milk about half an hour later - thats how we do lunch and dinner. Breakfast is porridge made with 2oz milk and a 3oz bottle. And she will have a couple more 4oz bottles in the evening.:flower:

thanks, i cant give her dairy as she is allergic. I have tried out the 3 bottles today (so far she has had 2) and she has drank 16oz already with 1 more to go before bed tonight which im really pleased about :)
