After speaking to my MW i have decided to ff liitle one at night so i could get a few hours sleep..coz at the mo im up every hour bf..and it aint working for me.

The thing is im totally confused about the whole FF and sterilising..

Once sterilised bottles how long do they stay sterile for? and if bottles are taken out do they need to be used immidiently? or do i keep them in sterilieser until i use them ?

secondly, i have read that when making a bottle it has to be cooled boiled water from the kettle which still needs to be warm when making bottle..is this what u all are doing?

can u not use cooled boiled water from kettle that is cold rather than warm?

thirdly can i store bottles of ff if so how? ..im so confused i think ive confused myself even more please help

1s they are sterilised if kept in the sterilieser they stay ok for up to 3hrs

when i do my lo bottels i use eather boiled or cooled water they say use cooled as when making up a feed you cant mix the powder to boiled water as it will burn the powder.

they say dnt store made up bottels only make up when needed when i had my 1st son they seid you can store them up to 24hrs.

I sterilis all the bottels then add the water and keep them in the frige this way they stay sterilised and then i can just warm the water up as and when i need them then just add the powder

Hope this helps you

We are combi feeding and had the same worries when we started! We boil fresh water every day then store it in a sterilised plastic bottle until needed to make up the feeds, we sterlise bottles and store them in the steriliser then use them within the three hours we mix the powder and feed at room temp, you don't need to feed it warm and it makes life easier when you go out (we just take a bottle of boiled water and formula powder in a small pot and mix up when required.) :)

sounds like you have a good routine there..i have a question for you also ..
you say you use a sterilised plastic bottle for the pre boiled water..does the 3 hour sterile rule go for that bottle too? or is that only for babys bottles ?

And what if you were to go out how would that 3 hour sterile rule apply then (surley i dont have to take the steriliser alsio) im confused about this whole thing :)

We are on formula now and have got into a little routine. I fill the kettle with fresh water and boil, wait for about 20 mins ish (no more than half an hour) as the water should not be below 70 degrees when adding the powder as otherwise it doesn't kill the bugs and then add to bottles (I use a cold water steriliser so the bottles come straight out of the water sterile). I add the powder, gently shake and then quick cool using iced water from my dispenser. I then store them at the back of the fridge until needed. Then all i have to do is heat in hot water to room temp once LO needs them :) I do this onec in morning for all day and then once in evening for night and first morning bottle :)

When i got out, i just take bottles from the sterilser and keep sterile water in them :) I then empty while i'm out and add formula from a carton (these are sterile until opened and then last 2 hours or 24 hours in the fridge) as this is most convinient for me and requires no heating or worrying about bugs :)
