do get checked out. Bacterial Vaginosis has a fishy smell and the smell is increased during/after sex (which might make you think it is the semen). It is caused by an imbalance of the bacterial levels in your vagina and isn't something you have "caught". A few pills will fix you up it that is the case!

can this effect fertility if its not treated?

and to the regards to those who say "dont worry about it..its normal"...i think to anyone that is smelling something out of the ordinary, should be getting checked regardless just in case and rule out anything. then it would be safe to say its just normal. it could be the start of something so better be safe then sorry.

If its not normal for you then yes get it checked out. I only get this every now and then after sex. With bv you have alot of discharge that smells fishy even when you havent had sex. If this is the case a little trip to the drs wouldnt hurt anyone.

I get the same thing after :sex: when I don't clean up after. DH and I joke about it smelling sort of like "stinky bleach" :haha:

SAME HERE HON, THERE WAS A THREAD GOING ON THIS SORT OF THING AND LOTS OF LADIES AGREE THIS IS SOMETHING THEY GET AFTER HAVING SEX! I DONT THINK THERES ANYTHING WRONG HON I THINK THIS IS PERFECTLY NORMAL AND THE SPRAYING OF PERFUME ON YOUR PANTS IS PROBABLY MORE THAT YOU THINK YOU SMELL TO OTHER PEOPLE THAN YOU ACTUALLY DO......AM TALKING FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE HERE......SEMEN DOES SMELL SAY THE MORNING AFTER CAUSE IT SORT OF GOES OFF AND SETS/JELLIFIES SO AFTER IT CLUMPS TOGETHER IT GIVES OFF QUITE A STRONG ODOUR WHICH YOU THINK EVERYONE CAN SMELL WHEN IN REALITY THEY CANT! :hugs:

Thanks! I get so worried about it sometimes that when we have company I won't talk to them until I have showered so I make DH distract them while I go clean :haha:

If you're only getting it after sex then I'd say it's clumped-together dead sperm from the night before. Happens to me too, but only after sex, a little gift from the night before :haha:
Spraying perfume in your underwear isn't a good idea - it could really upset the pH balance of your hoo-ha and possibly affect the mucous membranes. You're probably far more aware of the smell than anybody else would be.

My thoughts exactly hon  if I was getting a smell and hadnt had sex like in last day or two then I would be inclined to think it was an infection of some sort and would be popping off to Dr but if its present after sex I wouldnt be worried and again I think sometimes you are more aware of your own body odours than other people are and you think everyone can whiff when they cant and I know from my personal experience its my occd (obsessive compulsive cleaning disorder!)kicking in! I mean I am the cleanest person going in every aspect from my body to my house and I still get paranoid that I smell :dohh:

I don't notice a smell coming from my vagina but I do notice a semen smell coming from my sweat around ovulation. OH notices it, too. He goes to cuddle me and says "ewww you smell like sex!". Lol. I shower regularly, too.

Honestly, I was convinced for a while it was just the mixture of seamen and cm, but i'd done loads of research about BV and thought it was best to check it out, but it was smelling fishy, and people could smell it, and taking anti biotics worked for me so it was definetly BV, not saying thats what you have, but I went two months (i know, terrible!!) convincing myself it was nothing because I was embarrassed but i'm glad I went to the doctors now. It would be worth going and talking to your doctor about it. BV has barely any other symptoms, no itchyness or discharge, and can go for ages without being noticed and it is really common.

I would be worried if it was something to happen of late hon but for me its being the same for years but only after :sex: with DH

no smell today and OH has said he can never smell anything...i had all my tests done last year in the hospital, scans, swipes, dyes and all sorts even a smear i wonder if i did have BV would it have shown then?

BV, like a yeast infection, can show up very quickly. I used to get them frequently (like every couple months) when married to my ex-husband. It was very frustrating. My first clue would be the odor that would happen during/after sex. Metronidazole is the antibiotic they give, and it clears it up quick. Smell disappears within a day or two. I haven't had a single episode of it since I got divorced from him.

I would go and have it checked out. Simple test.

just some more information I found about causes of vaginal odors that I thought might be helpful, here is a link to the site as well.

https://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vaginal-odor/MY00555

Vaginal odor — often described as a "fishy" smell — usually results from an overgrowth of organisms normally present in the vagina. Vaginal odor may be more noticeable after sexual intercourse. Other signs or symptoms that can accompany vaginal odor include vaginal itching or irritation and vaginal discharge.

Bacterial vaginosis, or bacterial overgrowth, is the most common cause of vaginal odor. Some sexually transmitted diseases may cause vaginal odor. Much less commonly, vaginal odor can be caused by a retained or forgotten tampon. Vaginal odor may also result from a rectovaginal fistula — an abnormal opening between the rectum and vagina — which allows feces to leak into the vagina.

Commonly, vaginal odor may be caused by:

Bacterial vaginosis
Chlamydia
Gonorrhea
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
Poor hygiene
Yeast infection
Less commonly, vaginal odor may result from:

A forgotten tampon in your vagina
Cervical cancer
Rectovaginal fistula
Vaginal cancer

When to see a doctor
By Mayo Clinic staff

If you have persistent vaginal odor, see your doctor.

In the meantime, to minimize vaginal odor:

■Wash your external genital area. During regular baths or showers, use a very small amount of mild, unscented soap and lots of water.
■Avoid douching. All healthy vaginas contain some bacteria and other organisms. The normal acidity of the vagina keeps bacteria and yeast in check. But douching can actually upset this delicate balance.

So in conclusion I would say play it safe and go see a dr, alot of these things if gone untreated for a long period can have long term negative health affects.

hi girls :)
just a quick update im going to see the doc on thursday,i have pin pointed it and its seems to smell of urine so i might have a urine tract infection...ill keep u all posted,i hope its not BV :dohh:

she said the smell during ovulation is perfectly normal :)

Hi, I know what u mean. had anti-biotics, spoke to 2 docs, even had a swab taken. It is just that time of the month & I am so aware and embarrassed but it's just the change in ph levels. Try wearing a liner, don't spray yourself, wear cotton & try using a femfresh special cleanser. Also I carry non fragrance baby wipes to freshen up. Hope this helps. :hugs:

Hey missy, glad you know you're OK - slightly disconcerting to hear it's the smell of ovulation! Sounds a bit fishy to me (sorry, but I couldn't resist that one :haha:), but whatever it is, plenty of us get it and it's it's not BV. Hurrah!

Wow, thanks to Missy for posting this, i get this too, especially after sex. I have been for 2 STD tests, swaps at my GP's, gyn appts as i was convinced i had something. I only wear cotton knickers now, i always carry femfresh wipes with me and only clean down there with femfresh too.

Its a relief (that sounds really bad), that other women have this too and how normal it can be.

Thanks girls
