Well I had my little girl on the 27th August and still haven't posted my birth story for a few reasons really...I was very ill after the birth for about 3.5 weeks and then when I went to go on here I realised my laptop cable had been chewed by the dog...typical haha! :dohh:

So anyway, here goes. After having 2 days of contractions going on and off me and OH decided to try sex to see if it would speed my labour up. Then I woke up at 2.45am thinking I'd wet myself! Went to the bathroom to clean myself up and a HUGE gush happened! Called the hospital to tell them my waters had broken and they told me to come straight in. I arrived there at 3.30am and was put in a little room and strapped the the monitor which measures your contractions and the strength of labour pains. They took a urine sample and I was left alone with OH for an hour and a half. Then they came back to see how dilated I was and found I was only 3cm - but they didn't send me homeas they found protein in my urine. They took another urine sample and I was left alone again for 2 hours while we waited for the results.

By this time I was in a LOT of pain but didn't have any pain relief as I wasn't in the delivery room yet. Then after I'd been there for 5 hours two midwives came in and looked at the charts on the monitor. They were shocked as the contractions were measuring REALLY stron but I was only 4cm dilated, so they did my blood pressure. It was ridiculously high and then my urine sample came back and there was lots of protein in it. By this time my wrists and ankles had swollen so much that they had to cut my name band off my arm. Turns out I'd developed severe pre-eclampsia! So they took the brakes off the bed and rushed me into the delivery room at only 4cm dilated.

It was really scary to be honest as they were all rushing around. They put drips in both of my hands and I was put on a saline(sp?) drip and they then injected magnesium sulphate in one drip (I think to reduce my blood pressure) which made me vomit everywhere and something to induce me in the other drip. They then put a cathater (sp?) in as well and I was finally given the gas and air.

As if this wasn't bad enough I was told that because of the pre-eclampsiaand the fact that they'd induced memy contractions were going to get a LOT stronger than normal - so they recommended I have an epidural. I really didn't want it at all but finally after a lot of persuasion I accepted.

The midwife then looked at the charts and realised my contractions not regular anymore and the baby's heart rate was dropping. She then told me it was time to push. Because of all the drips and the epidural I couldn't have the active labour I wanted but instead had to have my feet up in the stirrups  and after only 20 mins of pushing the baby was getting distressed and her heart rate was right down to like 40 so they rushed 4 doctors in and ended up giving me an episiotomy and a forceps delivery.

She was borh at 4.04pm on the 27th August (2 days before my due date) weighing 7lbs 8oz and looking just like her daddy!

The birth was really very horribl and has still left me with nightmares and extreme feelings of guilt for not being able to push my daughter out on my own (I know this is ridiculous but I can't help feeling this way).

I think the worst part of it all was that I couldn't get out of bed until 8pm the next day - so I couldn't even get her out of the cot on my own when she cried - a midwife had to pass her to me. I was also put on a fluid restriction as I wasn't passing and urine and they wanted to measure how much I was taking. To make it all worse I wasn't allowed to eat for 24 hours which left me feeling weak and then they measured my iron levels which turned out to be so low that they offered me a transfusion.

Basically I was left feeling absolutely dreadful and they said they were surprised as I seemed so calm and didn't even make one sound during my labour - no screams or anything haha!

Really sorry for this birth story being so long but I really needed to just get it all off my chest. Anyway, I'm starting to feel better now (she's 9 weeks 5 days) and I'm even starting to go out on my own with her - something I thought I'd never do!
