just to let everyone know, i was only asking and i think there is definately a bit of bitchyness going on here. ! i have never given birth and as u can tell by my signature, im only days, if not hours away. was just asking since i expected labour to be quite draining with or without an epi. so can people get of thier high horse with trying to turn this 'debate' into an argument where its not needed to be!![]()

It's true, but I found the epidural slowed my labour. I got one at 8cm with my daughter, but they didn't know I was 8cm already. They checked after they gave it to me. They said had they known, they'd never have given it to me.
But I did throw up...and my daughter came out too quickly, and I ended up with 86 stitches. Vomitting during the pushing stage pushes all the muscles necessary for pushing a baby out, and if you push too hard, which happens when vomitting during labour, you'll end up with a massive tear like I did. As a result, I suffer from coital incontinence now and surgery is the only way to repair that issue. I can't have an orgasm without peeing everywhere, or I have to stop before climax, pee, and then work up again.
Trust me, you don't want to suffer through that.
But the epidural at 8cm slowed my labour. It was an hour and a half after I got it than my daughter was finally born. With my son, I didn't get it. They just broke my water at 7cm, and 3 minutes later, I was 10cm, and 12 minutes after that, my son was born. Had I known, I'd have never gotten the epidural. I don't plan on it this time either.[/QUOT
This is not necessarily because of the epidural. Anybody can vomit during labour, it's quite a common thing, hence the OP not eating at this late stage. Anybody can also push their baby out too quickly and tear........the epidural actually normally has the opposite effect. Also can I just say that having your baby an hour and a half after being 8cm isn't slow at all. They allow an hour for each cm to dilate, then an hour for descent and then an hour to push. So actually it was pretty quick. To the OP, i'm glad your comfortable at 8cm and are relaxed, good luck xxxx

Not a particularly nice story thrown in randomly there when you've just announced that you've had a late epi yourself.....but hoping it's all done with now and you're on![]()
I don't think the story was thrown in randomly. It's important to get a balanced view on things like this and I for one, see no point for censorship. It's a intervention, and as such, women should be aware that things can and do go wrong also. It's weird that the medical establishment plays down that side of things.
OP wasn't asking for advice or experiences, she is in labour and was saying she feels relaxed and good. I think it was an entirely inappropriate place to post that story. Labour is scary enough as it is without hearing horror stories in the middle of it!
For what its worth i had my epi at 8cm and although it only worked a little bit i didn't suffer any lasting side effects from it. Good luck hun!
Well. to be honest, does it matter when the story got wrote?! everyone on this site has seen a few bad storys from other people from this site. she cant be suffering that much as she is 8CM dilated and on bloody bnb!people come on this site to get info and experiences and a chat. if people want to throw in thier experiences, then let them! if she was that botherd about being in labour at 8cm dilated, the last thing she should be doing is being on BNB!

I no what it is!
Holy crap people, I've only made it to page two but if you have an issue with ME and what I posted, take it up with ME, don't post it, spew it and attack me oh so discreetly as to not mention names like I'm not aware you're talking about me, or as if I'm not going to read it and become offended. How about before attacking what I posted, ask me to confirm what I meant and my intentions behind it? Geez.
It's a good thing her doctor told her not to eat because it CAN happen that the epidural can make you throw up during the pushing stage if you get it too late. My story was to explain what happens during the pushing stage if you throw up, that it pushes on the necessary muscles to deliver a baby. My story was to confirm what the doctor said, not to effin scare her.
She should be glad and thankful that her doctor passed on that information to her. I only wish mine had too, so I could have saved myself the pain of recovering and four long years of embarassment.
I hope her labour went well and that she's holding her little baby, and that nothing too dramatic happened, by my god ladies, you should be ashamed of yourselves for blatantly attacking a person for so many pages when she's unable to defend herself. Next time, confirm the intentions behind the post before attacking, send a PM with your concerns over the post or take the damn attack to the debate boards. Grow up.
