I feel so frustrated and sad right now.. I am literally holding back tears right now. I know you guys have said to wait a few days but why is it that it seems like nothing is happening!!!! I was feeding him for almost 4 hours! 4 hours!!! :sad2:

It's just so hard to stay optimistic when I feel like I'm not giving him what he needs anymore. He has been sucking and sucking from both breasts and I gave him the bottle and he drank it like he was starving. He hasn't had a dirty diaper in days and he doesn't wet his diaper that much at all. I feel like I made the biggest mistake I could have ever made. And I wish I had never decided to give him a bottle to begin with. I hate this! :hissy:

Keep trying hun, but don't let him get dehydrated. He should be having regular wet nappies. Give him the breast for an hour or so then offer him the formula. It will take a couple of days for your milk to come back, but it will come in - before long you'll be looking like Dolly Parton.

Do you have breastfeeding support in your area? It could be a latching on problem as to why baby isn't getting enough.

The only way I can describe it is....imagine you are drinking through a straw....not imagine you are biting the straw and trying to drink, very frustrating for both Mummy and baby.

Try and make sure he's latching on properly....your midwife or health visitor should be able to help if not ring one of the local breastfeeding support numbers....you should have one in your postnatal pack....or Google.

Good luck chick, try not to stress:hug:

 Don't be discouraged, sweetie. Even a little bit of your breast milk does wonders. Even if you have to supplement. Also, remember that babies like to suckle, so sometimes it's for comfort.

hun I know everyone is saying not to give up and to keep going, but you sound so very very upset. It's not the end of ythe world if he has formular. Is there a breatfeeding nurse or Health Visitor you can talk to?
Please stop beating yourself up :hugs:

I spoke to my HV today and she was saying that if he is falling asleep at the breast (as he did when she was here) and he isn't crying etc. when he's trying to feed, that he is satisfied with what he's getting from me. I have been feeding him a lot, still no full breasts. But I'm satisfied, as long as I can breast feed, even if he has some formula, I'm fine.

I'm going to try to pump though and get him away from the formula because I'm noticing that his gas and waste is pretty smelly now... Something I wasn't used to with breastfeeding

Thanks ladies for your support. :hugs:

awww good. I am glad you feel better :hugs:

At this stage hun you're not likely to get full breasts unless he goes for hours without a feed. Your supply will have regulated by now, which means that your breasts make the milk as the baby feeds. Well done you, keep it up
