So I know there is no definite answer, especially since this is my first child, but I wanted to give some background to what has been going on up until my induction.

I'm being induced on Wednesday 12August. My due date is 8August. On Monday 27July and Friday 31July I had sweeps done, and I was 4 - 4.5cm dilated and 80% effaced and a posterior cervix. At my appointment yesterday I was told I'm still the same, and that baby is between stations -2 and -1. It was decided if I don't have him by Wednesday morning they will induce me. So far they are not willing to do the breaking the waters only induction because his head isn't placed firmly enough against my cervix and they don't want to risk cord prolapse, the plan is after 20-30 minutes of monitoring for baby and contractions on my own (which I've had maybe 1 that I felt and that was only after my first sweep) they will start me on the low dose of pitocin and increase it every 30-60 minutes until contractions start.

So with my cervix being dilated almost half way already, and him being at almost a 0 station, what are the chances of me having a fast labor/delivery (fast being 2-5 hours). Or because I'm a FTM do I have a high chance of a super long delivery (9-15 hours??).

Again, I know there is no definite answer, but I just want opinions. And any stories of previous inductions are more than welcome!

Out of interest, why are they inducing you? Four days late isn't much. I wasn't induced til 13 days over with my third. I only ask because it seems from what I've read and heard that the more you let your body do on its own the quicker and easier induction is. Not always of course but usually. Is there a medical reason? Being overdue is not of itself a medical reason.
I'd also ask if you have to go straight to pitocin. Here in the UK they usually start induction with a pessary to kick things off. If you're that dilated the pessary might just do the trick.
For a first time labour, I wouldn't have thought that up to 15 hours was unusual and it's definitely not super long. My first, not induced, was about 45 hours. Second and third were about 10-11 hours each.
I enjoyed my induction although I was very nervous about it beforehand as my first two came on their own x

I'm at the Landstuhl Army Hospital in Germany and they don't let you go past 41 weeks, and all the induction dates leading up to me hitting 41 (on 15August) are full because they only do 2 inductions a day. And it's costing a lot of money to keep me here because I'm storknesting (I was sent from a base in Turkey). Honestly, they're surprised I made it to the point of 40 weeks because I was medivac'd here at 24 weeks for cervical incompetency and they told me I wouldn't go past 34 weeks max with my cervix. It had shortened to 0.14cm in length by 32 weeks.

Also - If I were at my home and not stuck in a hotel for the past 3 months I wouldn't mind going to 42 weeks. And also I'm in a LOT of pain.

They see if I'm contracting on my own first, and then they do the pitocin straight. Unless baby is up against my cervix. If he is then they will break my water and see what happens.

And here 15 hours is a long time, once you hit 24 they make you do a csection - you have no choice.

I was induced with my 1st. Different situation to yours, I wasn't dilated at all and was unfavourable for labour. I was induced via pessary and it didn't seem to work, I had it in in the morning and nothing happened, had another later on and another when the 2nd fell out, then went to bed with the plan to start the drip the next morning. But around midnight labour started and hen it did it was quick, I went from 0-6cm in about 1.5 hours and labour was only 6 hours start to finish (it could have been faster but I had to go onto my back for monitoring at 7cm and that slowed things down, pus I pushed for 2 hours so that added time on). So in my experience being a ftm didn't = long labour :).
My 2nd labour was actually longer and I was dilated 3cm so I was expecting it to be a bit shorter. But I was told by my MW that usually you can expect labour to be a bit uicker if you're already dilated as your body has less work to do. So hopefully this will be the case for you; 4.5cm sounds like a really really good start! :)

My first disengaged her head and my body showed no signs of any labour preparation at 42 weeks. I was induced with pessary, led to 12 hour labour. It truly depends on your own individual factors as my situation implied I was in line for a lengthy labour and actually had a quick one. Sadly no way of predicting hun

I was induced at 39 weeks with DD. I was 4cm dilated and 80% effaced when they broke my water and started pitocin. In total my labor was 6 hours long started at 8:30 and baby arrived at 2:42pm.

There is a good chance it could go quickly as your already half way there! Good luck! I hope it goes smoothly for you :hugs:

He's here! My induction got moved up to the 11th. Started pitocin at 10:30am, waters broken at 4:30pm and he was delivered at 3:51am on 12 August.
