Hi :flower:

So, i a little over 2 weeks, i am going in to be induced.

The plan is that i will have my water broken, then they will immediately give me an epidural. I will have a catheter and be monitored, and after 2 hours i will be started on the drip if contractions haven't established.

So, is there anyone out there that has had the same kind of induction, that can offer advise from experience? I am really worried about not being able to feel anything, and relying on them telling me what to do and when, especially considering in previous labors it has been me that's had to tell them what is going on, and them not listening for them most part.

I would really like to hear from someone with an experience of this. As i will be having the epidural before established labor

Why are they insisting on an epidural if you've managed without in the past?

having epidural due to problems i still have from previous birth experience. Something i don't wish to discuss however, but it is that or section basically. It isnt that i've 'managed' in the past, it is just that there has never been time for an epidural. Due to the fact they normally wont give one until 4cm dilated, but i stick below that for so long, then just go from 2 or 3, to ready to push very quickly, so they never have time to do one as i never really get to that stage.

Hi, I had my waters broken and then an epidural as every contraction I had sent my blood pressure even higher than it was so they has it fitted straight away. I had no pain but when I was fully dilated I felt so much pressure every time I had a contraction. I didn't have to be checked to know when I had fully dilated it took a while to get used to pushing but once I got it I had my daughter with no assistance. X x

I had both my babies after being induced. With ds I had my waters broken and then the drip and then the epidural. With dd I didn't need the drip as contractions started immediately and were intense. Had epidural straight away and labour was 1 1/2 hours in total so all quite suddern. Both times I felt pressure and knew baby was coming. Pushing is a bit harder with an epidural but definitely possible. Good luck. Hope all goes smoothly! Xx

I lost my plug and waters and never went into labour. I was induced with the drip, never given the pessaries. I dilated very well and asked for epi to be told you'll get in next internal examination, when you're likely to be 5cm. Well I got to that point and was 8cm and screening the place down. Wish I'd had the damn epi when I asked. The drip is painful. He anestitist was practically having a fit putting it in me as I was screening and couldn't stay still.

My advice, question why they want it in straight away. Ask can you not wait to have it when you decide. I dilated well, possibly as it wasn't in straight away and I was rotating in a ball the whole time, even though I was right beside the monitor and hooked up to it. If this is no 6 then you've had lots of experience so follow what you think. X

I'm not sure mine was exactly the same, I had to have my waters broken with both labors, I would go into active labor on my own but I'd stop progressing at which point they'd break my waters and I would progress after that, my first was different though and I got the epi before they broke my water, my second they broke my waters and I started having very intense contractions so I asked for the epi right away, I progressed pretty rapidly and don't know if it was the type of epi (walking epi) or if I just progressed so quickly but it was definitely different from my first, I knew and felt big time when to push, it took the edge off the contractions but I felt everything else. With my first I couldn't feel anything!
