Has anyone here used Infacol on their LO?

I am using it on my LO for colic and wind problems. I use the dropper on the back of LO's tongue and he absolutely hates it. He gets this disgusted look on his face and spits it all back out. And starts coughing. I only started using it yesterday afternoon and since using it have found it so hard to wind LO during feeding. He will not burp at all now? I thought Infacol helped the trapped wind?

LO will burp a long while after his feeds now, which means he wont settle after a feed because he has all this trapped wind. Ive been up all night with him because of this for the first time ever since having him. How long does Infacol take to start working usually? Is there any other way you can administer it apart from on the back of the tongue? Hate seeing LO in discomfort. :(

It can take a couple of days to work, I use it on my little one and she doesn't like it either but it did start to work after about 3 days. She also tries to spit it out do as soon as I have put it in her mouth I put her dummy in and she sucks on that and that seems to help her swallow the infacol. That's the only way to use infacol. If you would rather use something different if infacol doesn't work for you, you can get dentinox or gripe water that you can put in to their bottles so they take it that way, hope that helps a little xx

Ps I also changed to mam bottles which helped with her wind no end!! Xx

Thank you for replying. Thats a good idea with the dummy, i will be trying that next time. I will try Infacol for a while at least to give it a go but i don't understand why his wind is even harder to get up now than before i started using the Infacol?

I tried Infacol a few times but it made LOs mouth so slippery that he couldn't latch on properly so was taking in even more air than before thus defeating the object of the exercise!

Oh no poor LO. Did you use anything else?

It took about a week to start working for me. Try squeezing it into the side of her mouth rather than the back to stop her from pushing it back out.

No, just spoke to the midwife about how to improve the latching on and winding techniques as he's still very young. He's not so bad during the day, it's at night when we have trouble.

Also how long before a feed did you give Infacol? The midwife said something about an hour before? But that's impossible as i don't know when LO will feed? So i've been giving it to him just before i feed him?

I give it just before I feed him but yeah it does take a few days to start working. Can't advise on anything else as my lo loves it! X

It took a day or 2 here. I'm thinking of trying dentinox as I think it's stopped working as she seems to be quite fussy still and it's not bringing it up as well as it did to begin. When she spits it out I kind of use the thing to scoop it back in her mouth lol. Always used it just before a feed too.

Jas had terrible wind as a newborn. Infacol did work but took almost a week to notice any difference. I use to squeeze it into the side of her mouth, near her cheek and tilted her back slightly. Almost in feeding position.
I used to give it to her before feeding, it's impossible to guess when they're going to feed.

We had a couple REALLY bad experiences with gripe water. Jas used to choke on it, stopped breathing once and I vowed never to use the blooming stuff again. Scared the hell out of me.

I've also heard Colief is amazing, however it quite expensive.

When winding my LO I always found a little bit of bouncing brought her wind up lovely.

Good luck hun, nothing worth than a windy baby :(

Thanks for the advice. My LO used to wind ok-ish before i used Infacol and i use the bouncing leg to help bring up the wind and found it used to work almost instantly, but since yesterday its not happening now during feeding? I'm confused.

We used to use Infacol too - pretty much from almost day 1 until she was about 12 weeks old. When I switched to formula feeding, we used to mix it in with LO's bottles (on paed advice). It worked pretty quickly for us too.

Hmm I can't remember how it was for the first couple of days using it now tbh. But Jas was almost impossible to wind from day one so it couldn't have got any worse ;)

If your LO was OK to wind what made you decide to use it?

We use Dentinox cause our boys also do not like the taste of Infacol! Plus being able to mix it in with the milk is great as they spat out loads of the Infacol. As for why your baby is now harder to wind, maybe he has less wind to bring up now? One of my boys hardly ever brings up wind no matter what we try. But since he doesn't spit or vomit either (or only once in a blue moon), we assume he just doesn't have much to start with.

I use infacol on harry I found popping him on his tummy brought the most wind up, just when he has a break from feeding lye him over ur knees and rub and pat his back and do it as hard as u dare to, the midwife in hospital said if he's not crying then it's not hurtingf him also wind during a feed aswell as at the end. I just used to wind harry at the end of a feed and think I'd got it all, then 10 mins later he'd bring his knees up because he'd got more wind also u need to give infacol for every feed or it won't work as effectivley xxx

Yeah I'd say try popping a dummy in as soon as you've put the drops in. I have to give my lo ranitidine in a syringe so I squirt it in the side of her mouth then put the dummy straight in so she starts sucking and swallowing.

Re the infacol I found it was rubbish, my lo hated it and it didn't work. Switched to dentinox which we just put in her bottle and it worked instantly. She was able to bring up huge burps straight after a feed!

Thanks i know this will sound stupid but i'm scared to wind my LO over my knees as i'm not very confident in doing it this way? I wind him on my knee with him sitting and rubbing his back which works sometimes and i wind him on my shoulder which just sends him to sleep.

I do wind him every ounce during his feed but sometimes he just wont burp?

i used it i thought it was rubbish.gripe water was only think that worked

i found that if i tried winding LO after every ounce it actually trapped her wind more i would wind half way through. freya was big baby so after a week i was chucking her everywhere trying to get wind out of her:haha:

i put lo over both my knee and lifted on foot on tipitoes at a time thats what helped

Because his winding was hit and miss and he was showing other signs of trapped wind/colic such as bringing his knees up and screaming/crying with a pained look on his face - the cry was a different cry to usual and he was really distressed after feeding and his poops are green-ish. Also the midwife said he sounded colicky.
