So I have just received my appointment for the infertiliity clinic in the hospital.
My doctor referred me to it when she discovered I dont ovulate

I was just wondering if any of you lovely ladies could give me any idea of what will happen at this appointment?
I'm a bit scared :nope:

hi hun

we had our first app before xmas and we didnt see the actual gyno himself but more like his secretary

she asked us general questions such as how long have we been ttc, how old we were, height, weight, do you smoke, past medical history, you cycle information regarding your periods etc etc. They may ask your OH for a sperm sample for the lab to look at (not to be done there and then though so not to worry)

that was it really, I didnt get examined or anything like that and had a second app a few months later where i spoke to the gyno and he told me he wanted to do a lap and dye to see if anything was wrong, and if anything could make me more fertile for the next few cycles. so i had that done on the 26th of May and i was told there would ba another appointment made for 3 months time but im still waiting.

Try not to worry though hun, I know a FS can be scary but you will be ok after your first app

:hugs: you will be fine hun

:flow: xxx

ETA: I was attending Cavan General Hospital  xxx

thank you sarah :hugs: Its so scary when you dont know what to expect.

Cavan is not that far away from me. i'm Enniskillen :)

:D Ive never been to Enniskillen but heard there are some good shops up there :haha:

I dont drive, but should get the bus up sometime :)

Dont worry hun, you will be fine. They also might want you to have a scan done to check for cysts :) I had that done in Monaghan General

xxx

you should, we could hit the shops! :)

Do I need to bring my OH with me to the app? or is it just for me?

I brought my OH "just incase" lol and when i was called in, they asked if i would like my OH to come in too, I said yeah since we are BOTH TTC and not just me :haha: and just as well cos he got the bags and a container for a SA (Sperm Analysis) to be done and brought to the lab before our next app, plus its good for moral support

Yeah will hopefull make it up before xmas :dohh: may do some xmas shopping! do they take the euro up there?

:flow: xxx

Hi,
At my appointment we talked through my blood results and hormone levels, and my DH's semen analysis, as we had to have all those tests completed to get a referral (Oxford uk) we then talked about my cycle, and set up an ultrasound. He then reccomended a lap, dye and Hysroscopy which I had done privately due to a 44 week wait on nhs (same consultant, different hospital) my next steps are clomid in 2 months an acupunture.

I would really reccomend taking a notebook with some key questions in, like waiting lists and what fertility treatment is covered by your local primary care trust. I wish I had done this. I left with so many more questions, and feeling a bit confused about some things he said.

Good luck with your appointment :-)

How do they do this? what is it for? If you dont mind me asking :flower:

No course I don't mind, :-)
I was under a general anaesthetic, I had a hole made in my belly button for a camera, they poked that in, then blew up my belly with gas, then looked around. They found a large (symptomless) cyst on my left ovary, so the placed two holes in my bikini line which the put instruments into to remove the cyst. Next the pushed dye up me, and looked to see if it went through the Fallopian tubes, which it did. Then the looked into the inside of the womb, to check for any abnormalities, and found none.
I was quite sore for a few days, and the gas escaping is quite uncomfortable, but I'm so glad I had it, and would 100% do it again. I had no idea about the cyst, but had noticed I needed a wee while lying on my left hand side at nighttime, which must have been the cyst pushing onto my bladder, that has gone now :-) it is lovely to know my tube are clear and there are no issues with my lady parts!
We now have 100% unexplained infertility as I think we have done all tests. I'm still looking for immune testing, but other than tht I'm trying acupunture to relive the TTC stress and hoping that will work.
Good luck x

yeah hun, he done it in the comfort of our own home and brought it down to the lab asap...that was the first time (they lost it :dohh: ) so he had to go get the bags again and told him to just do it there...they put him in a room with a bed and mags and let him at it  THEN when the results were in, they tried to tell us he had a vesectomy  which he said he didnt so done it AGAIN and they said no, he just has a low count and very low motility  they left me feeling very bitter and not knowing if OH had been lying to me this whole time! they didnt speak to OH first, they just brought us both into the room and asked some questions, then said ... word from word... "Philip has had a vesectomy...he's been lying to you!"

I didnt know what to think, philip wanted to sue the b*stards! xxx

Thank you so much, glad to hear you got all clear.
Hopefully the acupuncture will help relieve some stress :)

Its unfair how we spend our whole teenage years doing our best to not get pregnant, then when the time comes, we find it so difficult
:hugs:

I'm sure he did, thats awful of them!! I'd have been fuming! :grr:

My OH was glad to hear he gets to do the deed at home, he's terrified they will put him in a room with some mags too :haha: If they do he will be in there all day! he doesnt perform well under pressure
oh the things we have to do! xx

haha my OH doesnt either, took him a good 40 minutes to get the sample, just as well i didnt go with him  xxx

It does suck, our most fertile times (16-21) are when we study and try so hard not to get preggers!
I think also the messages we receive in sex education lead us to believe one time and bam you are pregnant, and that sticks with us, when realistically they are sayig that to scare us, one time does certainly not = pregnant, though in a few cases it can.

All of the ladies who are 'on the pill' and fall pregnant are a mystery to me also !!! Knowing hOw hard it is, and how effective the pill is, I am amazed at how many friends have become pregnant on the pill!!!!

Sorry, rant over! Xxx

I know, your right hun , if only it was as easy as one time = pregnant.

:hugs:

God wouldn't that be lovely! Lol

No more trips to m&s for exciting lingerie or me if that was the case!

X

I know, its hard to keep things exciting when we've been ttc for so long. sex doesnt seem to be just about us anymore :(
