Hi Ladies, I finally went to the doctors about not being able to conceive this morning, and now that I'm home I'm a little confused. The conversation with the doctor was about ovulating, which for me is about CD14-16, but I've had bloodtests scheduled for next week around CD21. Is it normal to have them done around this time?

Hi, I had mine at CD20 and the following CD5. Not sure if this helps make any sense of it!

Hi missbabes.....yeah day 21 progesterone test is the test they do to check if you've ovulated and if so if this ovulation was good enough to sustain a potential pregnancy.

In the second half of your cycle (your 'luteal' phase after ovulation and prior to af arriving) the dominant hormone is progesterone. When an egg is released your body starts calling for an increase in progesterone and typically the amount of progesterone would be at it's highest 7 days prior to your af arriving. As most medical people work on the fact that the 'average' cycle length is 28days and you ovulate on day 14 they they count back 7 days, hence day21 test. My cycle is usually about 32 days, and I get 14days between ovulation and af arriving, so I went for tests on day 25. Do you chart ovulation with opks or temps? If you do and you don't ovulate until day 16 (and you typically get 14days between ov and af) personally I'd move the appt out by a couple of days once you've ov'd in the cycle you're being tested in.

There is a typical scale of blood result readings which tell you if you ov'd and if it looks good or could be better. I can post these if you want to take a look.

Sorry if any of my waffle has been confusing. Good luck with tests and if you have any more questions let us know.....:hugs: xx

Thanks Baylea, that actually does make sense to me now. I did tell the doctor that I'm between 28 and 32 days, so can only guess that she's gone with the 'average'. I won't know myself until I get a positive opk, so I can take your advice into account :)
