The thing with Apple products is - they only do expensive items with a high spec. With other brands of tablet, you can get varying specs and varying prices. You have to think about it more and do research to find a good product.
Like-for-like spec on another brand will usually be quite a lot cheaper than the Apple equivalent.
DH and I are looking at buying a tablet soon, he works with computers, and in his industry they hate Apple with a passion. I have been banned from owning anything of theirs! We are considering something from Samsung, a Google Nexus or possibly an Asus Transformer - we'll see what's got a good deal when the sales are all underway.
This, for the same reasons. Hubby is in the computer industry as well and it drives him NUTS that Apple overcharches for pretty much everything and really isn't much better than the normal Android Tablets.
He also hates how Apple products force you to use more Apple products. My mother got an iPad Mini from my Dad for Christmas, Claire got a Nexus 7. There's far more with my 4 year old's Nexus than my Mom can do with her iPad, its crazy!
Fwiw: The Nexus 7 comes with gorilla glass, so you'd be hard pressed to actually break it.
I find with these it really all comes down to user preference. I know people who have Apple tablets and love them! Nothing wrong with that at all! But I've heard far more iPad products breaking than Android. Not sure if that's because there's a larger market of users for Apple products or if maybe Apple should evaluate redesigning their hardware so its less fragile?
The nexus is amazing and you get many apps for free that you pay for with apple. I hate how you cant change apple batterys too!
